we booked our stay blindly, and never checked trip advisor, however I could tell as soon as I received an email from Avril, that we were going to enjoy our stay at Fernroyd House.

After traveling, and walking up and down Western Road (we trusted a map instead of making sure we had the correct directions, our mistake), we were greeted by Avril at the door. She knew we were exhausted, put us right in the first room. The room was fabulous, every detail in place and the bathroom was gorgeous and huge!

After a nap and a shower, Tony took us into the kitchen and after minutes of talking, my cousin and I immediately loved him! He gave us directions to all the pubs and restaurants we might enjoy, and ended up going to the Liberty Grill. What a great restaurant, we were able to get right in without a reservation. I think we had the best hamburgers ever there. After walking around, we went to SoHo, another Tony recommendation where we had a blast!

The next morning, we had breakfast, scones to die for and french toast which was amazing. Both Tony and Avril came out to chat with us. We invited them to New York, and even asked them to come decorate our houses because their taste was impeccable.

Cork was our favorite stop on our trip, and we owe it to Avril and Tony! If we could have re-arranged our plans we would have stayed longer. We will absolutely be back.

Cheers to Avril and Tony!

This was a fabulous bed and breakfast. We stayed in a separate house that was new. Our room had a large bay window, large bathroom and queen bed. The room was elegantly decorated. We had a TV and alarm clock. There was a large room that would allow all guests in the house to watch a large screen TV and kitchen area with refrigerator. The back yard was pleasant and pretty. The breakfast was wonderful. The scones were out of this world. Our hosts were warm and caring - concerned with our every need. We walked to city center within 10 minutes. There was a pub that 2 sisters ran that served excellent food. The pub might have been a 5 minute walk from Fernroyd. We were able to park off the street right in front of the house that we stayed in.

“Loved Fernroyd House!”

Fernroyd House B&B

May 27, 2008

The highlight of our trip to Cork County was our stay at Fernroyd House in Cork City. Tony and Avril are superlative hosts and the facilities are clean, uncluttered, refreshing. Avril's scones at breakfast are to die for! My sister-in-law, my husband, and I were all very happy with our stay. Fernroyd and its annex building are across the street from the University College of Cork and a 15-minute walk from Parnell Bus Station at city center. Public transportation is easily accessible and Tony and Avril offer a wealth of knowledge about things to do, places to eat, and the best pubs. Highly recommended.

“Fantastic B&B”

Fernroyd House B&B

My husband and I loved it here. We were greeted by Avril's aunt which was like being greeted by my favorite aunt. Our room was just big enough for the two of us and I could tell that whoever did the decorating had an eye for detail in things like the tile in the bathroom, the cute towels, the coffee table book on Cork and the nice bed linens. Our room looked out onto the garden which was nice and made us feel like we weren't right in the middle of the city. We also enjoyed Chip the dog and never heard him bark once. He did stay out of our room even when the door was open so if you aren't a dog person like we are, you will still be ok.

We went out for a bit and upon return, were met by Avril and Tony who just wanted to say hello. They were very sweet. The next morning at breakfast they served a great meal. Upon checkout they gave us the directions we needed and invited us into the kitchen to say goodbye to their aunt.

The location is good. It was nice that it was right in town so we could walk somewhere for a pint and not have to worry about driving home. The only suggestion I can make is to ensure you have really good directions and a map printed out. We got lost on the way and although it didn't take to long to sort it out, I could see it taking longer if we hadn't made a lucky left turn.

Overall I can give this great no higher praise than that I would recommend it to my closest family and friends.
