“Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best B&B ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2008

From the moment we arrived from a long overnight flight from Boston to Shannon at the Fernroyd House B&B, we were welcomed by the most wonderful Irish family. Tony & Avril were in the middle of serving breakfast to their current guests, and as luck would have it our room was ready and waiting. Tony took the time away to show us to our room, insisted on helping us with our bags and took us to the loveliest, clean room one could imagine. He insisted upon us joining them for breakfast after we freshened up and served us the most delicious Irish breakfast. We were taken away with their hospitality. They couldn't be more accommodating for our every need. The room was spotless and brand new, not to mention the lovely ground floor community room which included a fridge, kitchen, wireless internet access, toaster, plates, cups, iron - you name it..... all the comforts of home. Tony and Avril took a keen interest in our plans for the area and gave us great advice about things to do and see. We fell in love with Cork and it felt like home. One would be remiss to miss out on such a lovely, hospitable place to stay. You will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!! We look forward to our return.

I would highly recommend Fenroyd House as a place to stay in Cork. Our room was clean, modern and newly decorated, with a comfortable bed and tea and coffee facitilies. The owners, Avril and Tony, were really friendly and helpful. They cooked us a beautiful breakfast and Tony took the time to advise us on places to visit throughout the rest of our stay in Ireland, as well as looking up the result of the Australian Grand Prix for us! The location is great - you can park on the driveway and walk into the City Centre in about 10 minutes. I would definitely stay here again!

We have just returned from our 4 day stay in Ireland. Having looked on Trip Advisor we decided to book The Fernroyd. We were not disappointed! Avril was very helpful and pleasant and was full of useful information. Nothing was too much trouble.

We were in the "New house", beautifully decorated with a gorgeous lounge for everyone to use. Our room was large enough for a double bed, single bed and a fold out bed.

The breakfast was really lovely. Cereals, juices and full Irish on offer. Plus fresh baked scones!

Another bonus was that the Fernroyd is only a ten minute walk from the centre of Cork. No parking to pay!

Cannot fault The Fernroyd and we would definitely stay again!

Hi, We stayed at this B&B and it was perfect. I was going to Cork for a birthday party and our budget did not stretch to a hotel. To be honest I was a bit dubious about staying in a B&B having had a few bad experiences with some other Irish ones (at weddings etc) but this one had everything we could have needed. We were in the new house which is a few doors up but everything is brand new with flat screen TV's/power showers. Breakfast too was excellent with freshly made scones. We could not have asked for more for €45 each and I would definately stay there again without question. Well done it's great to get value in Ireland (a rare enough experience!)

You could not fault this accomodation. The room in the annex house was spotless with excellent facilities especially the louge down stairs which is available to guests. Avril could not have been more helpfull. Giving welcome advice on where we could eat at 10.30 at night. arranging taxis etc. The breakfast was very good, with a more than adequate selection to set you up nicely for the day. Located just a 10 minute walk from the City centre. 15-16 Euro taxi fare from the airport. It will certainly be my first choice when i return to Cork again.

Stayed for three wonderful nights in Fernroyd House.

Before we went, we kept saying to ourselves that no two people can possibly be as wonderful as the reviews on here say. How wrong we were - Avril and Tony are THE most wonderful people you could meet. Absolutely delightful! Little Chip (the dog) is also lovely to have around.

We were in a gorgeous room in the house a couple of doors up the street. The room was clean, modern and we couldn't fault it. The shower in the bathroom has to be the best hotel/guest house shower we've come across in our travels.

The guests who stay in this separate house have the run of the most wonderful kitchen/dining area/lounge/garden. We had a late evening flight home on Saturday and Avril and Tony allowed us to stay here for a couple of hours early evening to relax. We had checked out of our room at noon, but they were more than happy that we made ourselves comfortable, making tea and watching TV for a couple of hours when we came back from a day in Cork for our luggage.

Breakfast at Fernroyd was a lovely experience - wonderful food (kept us going until our evening meal) and a room full of happy guests all chatting to each other like we'd known each other forever. "Hello" to John from Colorado who I know will read this when he gets back home. I expect he'll follow us and write some nice things about his stay in Fernroyd.

Don't think about anywhere else to stay if you're planning a trip to Cork. Lovely quiet street and only a short stroll into the centre of the city. You'll love it!

Amazing! Loved the city and the accomodation. Cork people are so friendly generally, but our hosts, Avril and Tony were perfect, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts are amazing. Cooked to order and you can be flexible and have a mixture of whats on offer. The scones are truely lovely, warm with butter and jam!

We left our luggage there on our last day and returned there before our taxi was due. Finishing of our wine (proper wine glasses offered without asking), and were offered cheese and biscutes to go with it. We had already paid by then so I am sure these were offered as a kind extra (though we declined as our lift was due).

Places to visit (some recommended by host)

An Spacpin Fana (Irish Music Bar)
Zanzibars, meditereanean food
St Fin Barres Cathedral (very near)
Half Moon Theatre (small but we saw a fabulous performance of 'The Good Sisters' very funny!
Reidys Bar (nr by) lovely decor.
The English Market for excellent food.

But the best was a train ride to Cobh Island, last departure port of Titanic. You must eat at Waters Edge Hotel, Jacobs Ladder restaurant. Very reasonably priced excellent food and service.

If I return to Cork, I'll return to Fernroyd House!
