“If you like Irish history you'll love this”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Try to visit on a fair weather day as this is mostly an outdoor gig. We brought our kids and they enjoyed it very much. Fab to see the old gun turrets and ammo magazine. You will need about 2hrs for the quick tour

“Partially Restored Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Being restored by a team of enthusiasts who are really knowledgeable. Stunning location at the mouth of the harbour and you can see how it fits into the whole defensive plan for the harbour. Went there for a military exhibition and look froward to going back to see progress of restoration

“Brilliant, if your anywhere in the area.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

Fort Camden is a must see attraction!
You must be in for a bit of a walk though, as Fort Camden is all that!
Fort Camden has an exceptional restaurant with an open outdoor seating area with a view of the sea and the passing boats.
This attraction is at low cost (€3) and is very clean and suitable for children.

“An absolute must visit when you are anywhere near Crosshaven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

I have to take my hat off to the volunteers who instigated the restoration of this amazing underestimated historical site.

For years, Fort Camden was left essentially to rot and was inaccessible to the public. Now (over the past few years) a group of local volunteers have begun a painstakingly slow restoration of this very significant site, with not a lot of financial aid from government or similar. It has been recognised to be one of the world’s finest remaining examples of a classical Coastal Artillery Fort

The site is really very large, much larger than you would expect from the outside.
The entry fee of €3 is very much worth it and you can expect to spend at least two hours there enjoying viewing the old barracks, the gun emplacements, munitions store rooms and my favourite of course , the 'secret' tunnel of steps down to the tiny pier.

Adults and children alike will enjoy it equally. It is very spacious and most of it is very safe, but I recommend that young children are accompanied at all times, just in case. On Sundays in the summertime, a 'mock' battle is acted out at the top of the site. This is very exciting for the kids. There is a little mobile cafe on site.

As this is a work in progress don't expect to find everthing in perfect viewing or working order, but this should not deter from your enjoyment of this fabulous space.

Miss it at your peril when you are in the Crosshaven area.
