If you have a love for seafood, you just cannot beat this wonderful restaurant. Having eaten here previously, we decided to give it another whirl and we were not disappointed. Often I find that on a second visit , a restaurant can fail to live up to your expectations but this was just as delicious as the first time that we had eaten here. We ate from the a la carte menu, which is not cheap, but the quality of the ingredients is of exceptional standard and it is cooked to perfection from my experience.
An excellent establishment if you are looking for a treat for a special occasion but you certainly wouldn't dine here frequently as its just a little too pricey for that. They do offer an early bird however, 3 courses up until 7pm so if you are looking to dine her on a budget , my suggestion is go for that. Anyway I had duck confit to start, hubby had the same. Excellent fusion of tastes, which included an apricot granola, foie gras, white peach, brioche and sour cherry. Just exquisite. I ordered Dover Sole for main(market price of €30, very pricey) Hubby ordered swordfish. Dover sole was generous in portion, served with squash, fondant potato and a sauce which was just perfect! Hubby's dish came out incorrectly and they could not have been more apologetic.... and this is what sets this restaurant apart in my opinion. A second Dover Sole came out from the kitchen, which was obviously not what we ordered but my husband said I will eat that anyway. The waitress immediately said no I will get you the swordfish but to be honest my husband didn't want to have to wait for a fresh dish ( he was starving!) so he said no that's fine I will eat the Dover sole. The waitress checked that he was sure and said I will speak to the manager in a while with regards to the mistake.
Anyway, we went on to order dessert, a chocolate tart served with pistachio ice cream. It was gorgeous and when our dessert was finished the restaurant manager approached our table to apologise for the error. This is a man who knows how to run a restaurant and how to look after his customers. He couldn't have been nicer and said that when it came to our bill he would compensate for the mistake. I won't go into detail about how he did that( for fear some less than honest people would take advantage) but can I just say I will go out of my way to recommend this restaurant as a result of how they handled their mistake, in addition to their incredible food. We were so impressed and it should be a lesson to other restauranteurs. What could negatively affect your opinion of an eatery can so easily be turned around with excellent customer service. This man is a credit to the service industry and often its lacking in Ireland. I will tell my friends and family to eat here because even if there is any fault, they are more than willing to overcome it. If you are visiting Cork or even living here and enjoy seafood, this restaurant is a must!
