“Disappointed by Christmas party experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

I did not stay overnight at the Gresham but attended a Christmas party there and was quite disappointed by the experience. There was a nice festive atmosphere in the lobby for the mulled wine reception but we were quite a long time waiting to be called for dinner. Our party was split into two separate tables which was not what we had expected. There were only 2 menus on the table for 7 people and waiting staff appeared before we had even settled into our seats to take our orders. The meal itself was not great, I would go so far as to say that the soup was terrible(tasted very much like cheap packet soup). The salmon was tasteless. However, some of our party had the turkey and ham which was quite nice. There was a long delay between the starter and main course. The waiting staff were pleasant but seemed under pressure. One of the bar staff had an extremely poor manner. The highlight of the night was definitely the music. The band were quite good and the dj played a good selection of music. All in all I don't think that the night was worth €45.

Stayed at the Met. last Sunday for 1 night booked online with a booking site (cheaper than their own site).
HOWEVER on arrival on a busy Sunday afternoon I was LOUDLY asked to pay in full in advance even though I had quietly mentioned the booking method I had used. As many of you would agree I wasn't 100% sure that I had paid in advance so I paid up feeling as if the whole foyer was looking at me.
I must say that the room, lunch & bar service was excellent but the reception had spoiled it totally for such a short stay.
On my return home I comfirmed my advance payment & contacted the hotel by e-mail along with the booking reference & receipt.
I got a call from them on Friday where there was no one on the other end of the line !!!!! then an e-mail that didn't make any sense in English.
I have only now (Sunday) had a call from someone I could understand and await reimbursement and an explaination as promised.(The booking company I had used are investigating & contacted me immediatly).
WHY OH WHY don't companies dealing with the public ESPECIALLY hotels have the cop on to ensure that ALL their staff have a better attitude & proper english in correspondance with their clients ?????

I had tried to impress my wife who is not from Cork with proper old world hospatility from an establishment that I fondly remember from my youth. HOW DISSAPOINTING !!!!!!
I WILL NOT BE BACK !!!!!

PS they also charge for parking !!!!! no mention of that in advance, watch out !!!!

Stayed at this hotel recently for a weekend and was thrilled to have found a lovely hotel very close to shops, pubs and restaurants, within easy walking to everything. The room we got was upgraded to an executive suite and had a large very comfortable bed, plasma TV and Jacuzzi bath. More than expected from a 3 star hotel. The room was kept very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful also. Breakfast was nice, breakfast room overlooking the river at the back of the hotel. All in all, a very good stay and would recommend to all and would have no hesitation in returning.

Stayed here again recently on a 2 B&B + 1D (€200 including parking) and enjoyed the experience overall. Charachter is the strongest assett of this quaint hotel with its location of a 5 minute walk from Corks Patrick street a close second. Staff were lovely and courteous as usual. Only fault I would have with the place was they seemed to turn off the heating in the room during the day 10am to 5 pm and during the night 10pm to 7 am approx. Not nice to come into a cold hotel room after being out in the wind and rain in the day or to get up at 6.45 am and feel the toes cring at the cold of the room. Definately an area to look into. However the food at breakfast and the 4 course dinner was excellent and negated any discontent with the temperature. The leisure suite is a bonus for anyone staying there and the anti clock wise swimming lane is a God send to any swimmer who wants to clock upa few lenght while in the hotel.

Overall a very nice break but check out the time clock for the heating

Easy booking, good value for money, great central location, convenient parking, friendly welcoming efficient staff, comfortable room, lovely view, excellent dining experience, breakfast served until midday, good leisure centre facilities, and just about anything else you would need for short weekend stay or if you are lucky a longer vacation. Definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return soon. Keep up the great work all concerned.
