We've just returned from a three-week trip including stops in England, Wales and Ireland. We stayed in some rather dreary B and Bs, some that were adequate, and the Garnish House, which appears to be in a class by itself. We were greeted at the door by the gracious Johanna who "convinced" us that we needed some refreshment and brought us a tray laden with freshly baked scones, soda bread, cakes, jams and coffee and tea. A delightful start to a delightful two night stay. The room was comfortable and loaded with "extras" that we weren't finding in other B and Bs - free internet connection, telephones, fresh fruit, a real, live bath tub! Breakfasts are absolutely out of this world - not just the same old Irish fry, but omelets, pancakes, porridge with Bailey's and brown sugar, fresh fruit and yogurt, cheeses. It was almost an embarrassment of riches. Yes, this B and B was the most expensive of any of the others we used during the three-weeks, but it was a charming respite during a whilrlwind tour and very much worth it. We hope to be back when the U.S. dollar goes a little bit further than it does now.

Hats off to the Garnish House!!

Me and my husband stayed at Garnish house on 19th April for one night. We arrived mid afternoon after a very long drive and were greeted by an extremely cheerful and friendly gentleman, who took us to our room and then asked us to meet him downstairs for afternoon tea.

We were sat down in a little guest lounge in front of a fire with the papers and a tray piled high with cakes, scones and pastries.
Another very friendly man then came in and had a bit of a chat with us about where we were going and gave us a map.

The room had its own settee and table area and was decorated beautifully. Very elegant.
We didn't end up venturing very far on the evening as we were so tired, but were quite happy to sit in the room with a bottle of wine, as was so pleasant.

We got up the next morning to the best breakfast choice I have found anywhere, and I have stayed in lots of very nice hotels. They have an extensive menu and encourage you to eat as much as you can manage. After a full irish we were asked if we would like some pancakes for desert!!! I wish I had the room.

The hotel is only a 10-20 minute walk from central Cork and I would definitely encourage people to stay here, over a modern hotel in the centre. If we ever return to Cork we will book with the Garnish again without hesitation.

The day staff who book people in are a credit to this hotel.

Stayed at the Garnish House B&B during a trip to Cork last week. My friend and I arrived from Shannon (0vernight trip from the US) at 9 AM uncertain if we would be able to check in so early. Although our rooms were not ready, Johanna, (the proprietor) was very accommodating, suggesting that we have breakfast while the rooms were prepared. Breakfasts at the Garnish House are opulent with fully cooked breakfast and a delicious selections of fruits , pastries, cheeses and cold cut meats. Rooms were ready in about an hour and we were able to check in. The rooms are large, comfortable and very clean. The Garnish House is located right across the road from the main entrance to the University at Cork and a convenient 10 minute walk from the downtown market and shopping area. Another convenient feature was that the GH had wireless internet available in the rooms. Ask for an access code card.

We stayed here with friends for 3 nights in March - covering St. Patricks Day!!

We were greeted on the door step by the owner and showed into the dining room for afternoon tea. It was amazing.......home made scones & cakes and plenty of them!!

We were not rushed in anyway and when we were ready we were shown to our rooms. We had a superior room and it was excellent.....the bed was huge!!! It was very clean and tidy and had usual things in tv, iron, hair dryer etc.

We were a five minute walk into the centre where all the shops and bars are. So it was very central. As we were out on the town the first night we had a late breakfast at 10.00am. The choice was vast, as good as what you would get in a hotel ie. fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals and various choices on cooked breakfasts.

The owners were always around should you need them and they really could not do enough for you, they were very helpful with directions and ideas on where to visit whilst we were there.

Cork was lovely and we would definitely go back, and for the first time ever I wouldn't want to stay in a hotel after we had stayed here. It really was a first class service!!

Spent 2 nights in Garnish on a romantic week away for partners birthday. Staff were very helpful in setting up room with birthday banners before we arrived. Was greeted with home made scones/bread/fruit/tea etc which was all lovely and directed to our room, ensuite jacuzzi bath with a double bed. I have to say the attention to detail was amazing and everything was beautiful in the whole house. Breakfast both days was a long drawn out affair where we spent half the morning indulging in all the wonderful choices available, and once again the staff were very friendly and helpful.
However, the one thing I will say is that, contrary to the majority of the reviewers opinions, I DID feel that it was most definitely a business I was staying in; everything, although lovely and well thought out, was all with an attempt to create a warm friendly homely environment, and I personally could see this.
Overall we loved it and we would definitely go back again, but it is a business and feeling that did take away somewhat from my overall experience.
