“It does what it says on teh tin”

Ibis Cork East

Nov 21, 2007

Given that we all know the Ibis chain is a chain of budget hotels this place really is quite good - Ive stayed there alot on business and compared to some similar hotels in the area it really does stand out. You do need a car though and this place is definelty aimed at the business traveller. Food isnt great but there is a nice pub about 2 minutes drive away (out the carpark and right, just before the Mace store), rooms are clean but basic and the bathrooms are fine with a really good shower. You get what you pay for in these type hotels and it is good value for money - just dont bring your swim shorts and expect a leisure centre or anything

“Great value for the money and very clean”

Ibis Cork East

May 19, 2007

Four of us stayed at the Ibis in early May and found it to be very good value for the money. We are family and had two double rooms. The beds were very comfortable and I had one of the best sleeps ever in a hotel. The rooms were very clean. We stayed for three nights. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room. The only downside in my opinion is the location as it is a bit hard to find but it is close to a central route and close to a large shopping centre where you can pick up a few groceries or snacks. The front desk will provide a map for how to get to the shopping centre. We booked a three night special rate as we were visiting family in the city and this hotel provided good value. I would recommend it but if you are by yourself without a navigator and don't know Cork, a downtown hotel may be better for you for sightseeing.

I agree with other reviewers that the hotel is not well located for the city unless you have a car, and is not well signposted either. It is right beside the South ring road, however, and that means that it is right beside one of the main access routes to Cork. Staff were helpful, but there is little ambiance in the hotel, and I wouldn't recommend it for tourists who would like to get a little local flavour. That said, it offers incredible value - 61 euro room only for a spacious, spotless family room which easily accommodated four of us. The shower is great, but what on earth is the idea with the duvet covers?! They are not actual cover, but instead very large sheets folded over the duvet, which inevitably unravel during the night, leaving you sleeping next to the duvet - yuk! Other than that I really couldn't fault the hotel, and would definitely recommend it as a stopover.

“Ok Hotel but too far from Cork City”

I recently stayed at the IBIS Hotel in Cork for a two night weekend in October with my wife. The hotel is very good value for what you get. The reception area is okay but the lack of a real bar is a big drawback. We were ordering our drinks all evening through a door into the kitchen. The rooms were spotlessly clean with two big double beds and a large bathroom. The big problem with this Hotel is that it is just too far out of Cork City. The bus service isnt very frequent and a Taxi can cost you anywhere between 12 and 18 Euro to get into town. It is worth spending the extra cab fare on a more central location in the city centre.
