“Memorable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

This is a lovey architectural building. On entering it is a typical gaol but stepping inside the individual cells, there is a sence of the past. The inmates wrote on the walls and what is written tells the story of part of Ireland's history. I got a sence of the passion, loyalty and belief of these men for their country. As I said memorable.

“Good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

A very well kept site that can justify the very reasonable entry fee. Try and bring cash, or prepay online, as credit cards are taken via a laptop and Paypal, which slows things down a little. Save some time and pay online.

Friendly staff, interesting exhibits. The audiovisual presentation is very interesting - museums have a habit of producing videos that drone on, but this one is fascinating.

Very young children might not enjoy much beyond the (wonderful) building, but I'd recommend for teenagers upwards.

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

Eventually got to visit last August 12 with my niece. She thought it was a bit scary at first but loved it. Learning about local history can be very interesting when it can be seen and experienced.

“My favorite tour in Cork!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

I did this tour during a day on the hop on/ hop off bus, and it was perfect! They give you cassette players to walk around with, so that you can do the tour at your own pace. The jail is well kept and the grounds are beautiful, and it's just a very cool atmosphere to see. Slightly eerie but that adds to the fun :). I really like this tour and would recommend it to anyone passing through Cork. It was definitely my favorite tourist attraction in Cork city.

“So much fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We got the audio tour and spent a fun hour in the jail with the lifelike mannequins acting out various scenes. I am a history buff and the info provided in the audio tour helped me envision the gaol as it once was. At the end, we sat in the round room where church services were held and watched a filmed presentation of the gaol's history. Creepy and fun!
Nice walk up from Cork...beautiful houses and scenery on the way.
