“My favorite tour in Cork!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

I did this tour during a day on the hop on/ hop off bus, and it was perfect! They give you cassette players to walk around with, so that you can do the tour at your own pace. The jail is well kept and the grounds are beautiful, and it's just a very cool atmosphere to see. Slightly eerie but that adds to the fun :). I really like this tour and would recommend it to anyone passing through Cork. It was definitely my favorite tourist attraction in Cork city.

“So much fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We got the audio tour and spent a fun hour in the jail with the lifelike mannequins acting out various scenes. I am a history buff and the info provided in the audio tour helped me envision the gaol as it once was. At the end, we sat in the round room where church services were held and watched a filmed presentation of the gaol's history. Creepy and fun!
Nice walk up from Cork...beautiful houses and scenery on the way.

“Interesting and informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Really well designed with wax models to help set the scene - really felt like it was still a gaol. Audio guide was very useful.

“Impressed with this attraction.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

The day we went the weather was cold and wet. Got a taxi from the main parade which cost 7 euro. But there were no taxis outside the gaol so we had to walk back. On a clear bright day this would have been ok but with hindsight would have booked a taxi for the return down the very very steep hill. Would give yourself a minimum of a hour for this attraction. longer when the weather is good because you can spend time outside as well. This is a self guided tour and audio guides can be purchased, however, the literature that is provided is is many different languages as is very informative. Tour is laid out very well and alot of acre has been out into. Beware though that if the weather is cold then the building is. There is an excellent slide/audio show at the end but due to the cold I couldn't stay for the full duration unfortunately. Gives you some idea of what the place was actually like when operating and a good insight to the history of Cork. Well worth a visit !
