I stayed at the Victoria Hotel in Jan 2007 on a short break with my mum. The hotel is very well located, being right on the main street. We nearly walked past it in fact as the entrance is in between some shops. We didn't have any problem with noise from the street, although our room(s) were at the back of the hotel.
The room on the first night... the hot water and radiator in the bathroom didn't work, and it was cold weather when we were there! The sink also had a big crack in it. So, we moved rooms for the remainder of our stay. The room (right at the back of the hotel) was more spacious than the first room, but absolutely STUNK of cigarette smoke. Although there seems to be a general no smoking policy in the hotel, the smoke in our room seems to have been embedded in the walls and furniture, and the smell wouldn't go no matter how long we left the window open. Seeing as neither of us smoke, that was a bit annoying. Also, although not the hotel's fault particularly, we were woken up in the middle of the night on a few occasions as the room above us was full of guys on a stag weekend.
The food at breakfast was nice, as was the food and service at the bar within the hotel. The staff were friendly enough, some more than others.
Overall, a great location in the centre of Cork, and I would advise a stay here if you are on a budget as the price for B&B was reasonable.

Just got back from a two night trip to Cork and to be honest i cant understand the negatives about this place.Travelled with
Not five star by along way but then again it never claims to be.
Rooms clean and spacious , hearty breakfast ,good bar , friendly staff.
And for the same price as an out of town b and b you get a location as central as you could possibly get..On the main shopping street with bars ,and restaurants literally seconds away.

If you are looking for a place to lay your weary head whilst exploring the city you wont go far wrong with this place.

My partner and I stayed at the Victoria on our first trip to Cork.
It was like staying in Faulty Towers. On arriaval the beds were unmade when we went in the room, we had to ask for them to be changed The towels had been used. The knob of the drawer came off in my hand, when I attempted to unpact! Then I discovered there was no bottom to the drawer anyway! we started to laugh about everything that went wrong and decided to stay for the future comic value of regailing stories about the place!
The breakfast was the worst I've ever been presented with and the staff were sullen and didn't appear to understand English well enough to serve us. We used the place as a base only to sleep. The location is supurb if you want to be in the city centre we were not distrubed by noise. We paid for breakfast for 5 days but only went down once. However there are lots of cafes near by that do lovely breakfast There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but they did give us some when we asked for it (although they didn't replenish it) I would stay again because of the laugh it gave us and the great location!

We stayed at this hotel very recently. The location couldn't have been better - slap bang in the middle of the city centre.

If you want to stay somewhere with all the basic necessities at a VERY reasonable price, and aren't looking for 5 star treatment, then the Victoria Hotel is perfect.

OK - I wouldn't stay here for a romantic weekend, but I was here with a group of friends and it was spot on.

GOOD POINTS:
- Very helpful staff
- Clean and spacious rooms
- Flexible check-in/out times
- Excellent location for the city centre
- Not a bad breakfast
- The bar was stayed open 'till 4am!

BAD POINTS
- Hotel felt 'tired'
- It was a bit of a maze to get to our room
- View outside room was not great (dilapidated 'courtyard' with a pair of pidgeons living there and some rubbish)

You get what you pay for - so given what it cost, I thought we had a very good deal.
