“January break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

I would have given this hotel full marks but the food let it down. The breakfast that we got delivered to our room was a considerably small, slightly cold and the rashers were dry. The restaurant, although lovely, was expensive for the quality and quantity of food we received.
Everything else was spot on. The staff were excellent, the rooms were amazingly spotless, and the view from our bedroom was fantastic. I hugely recommend the spa. I was in awe of the tranquility and beauty of the place. It was the perfect afternoon.

Room Tip: The views are fantastic from the back bedrooms.

Restaurant menu was very good even though we wer on an all inclusive package the menu had a great choice, from pigeon to monkfish. Everything tasted unreal and the staff were so nice and helpful even though they were so busy. Great job!! Only downside was the prosecco was a screw cap bottle. I would defo recommend and hope to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view, ours was beautiful

First time to stay in this hotel, we chose it for a spa break after Christmas.
We opted for an executive room which was lovely if a bit on the warm side.
I loved the spa and took advantage of the offer of twenty euro off a treatment and it was lovely. The vitality pool and spa area was a treat and as I had the whole place to myself it was blissful.
The dinner was excellent if a bit pricey for the quantity. However the quality was good. Breakfast on both mornings was good and we were served by Kitty who was excellent, full of charm, chat and information.
There were two weddings on when we were there but this did not interfere with our enjoyment of the hotel.
We will go back, maybe even fit in a girly spa weekend before the end of the year

We booked two nights bed and breakfast here with one evening meal between Christmas and the New Year to just get away and chill out. We arrived at 2pm on Saturday and our room wasn't quite ready but we didn't really mind as they did seem very busy indeed. Our room when we got to check in was lovely! Really spacious for a hotel room and had some lovely quirks including a wall with little fairy lights and a stand alone bath in the bedroom! We ended up having breakfast, lunch and an evening meal in the hotel and enjoyed all of the food hugely. Breakfast was really generous and lots of choice. The lunch menu was good and had plenty of tasty options. I did think that lunch was quite expensive for what you got. Our three course evening meal was really lovely and I couldn't fault any of the food we got. Really nicely presented as well. One slight gripe was that on the Saturday night we wanted to get some food at 10pm and the only option was to order a sandwich to the room. I thought that seemed a little early for that to be the only option.

We also used the spa on one afternoon. I had booked in for a massage which was a real treat and very enjoyable indeed. The only thing about the spa that didn't really suit us was that everything was separate including the pools etc so we had to spend the afternoon each on our own in our own area. However, the following morning we went down to use the main pool and there was a jacuzzi and sauna etc there so we could have spent time there together instead of going to the spa.

One afternoon we got a taxi in to town which was €12. It definitely wasn't walking distance. The taxi drivers were very friendly and the hotel had no problem organising this for us.

Overall we had a great stay here and I would definitely recommend it. While we were there it was very busy indeed and could be quite noisy - our room was noisy and the restaurant and bar were definitely buzzing. I thought for what we paid this hotel was excellent value for money too.

I stayed here as a Christmas treat with my partner on a Pigsback offer and wow was it fantastic. We checked in quite early as we were going shopping in the city, this was no problem for the very friendly receptionist who tagged our bags and said they'd be in our room when we got back. She also gave us plenty of info on things going on for Christmas in the city before ordering a taxi. Taxi cost approx €12.
We returned later that evening, collected our room cards and went to our room where bottle of wine and chocolate dipped strawberries were awaiting us. The room was very big as was bathroom, very plush. Only downside to the room was the bed, it was two mattresses together, not great for bad backs!
We both used the Spa which was fabulous, there is separate male and female areas but as it was quiet they allowed us both in the male relaxation area. The massages from the Dec special offer was really superb and very relaxing.
We had dinner in the restaurant later that night and again it was great, food was delicious. Restaurant like the bedrooms were a little on the warm side.
The next morning we ordered breakfast to the room, I noticed the order hadn't been collected from door but friendly ported took it and our breakfast arrived on time and again was delicious.
Checkout was easy and very friendly. Overall it was a fantastic stay and as with some hotels the fact that we were using a voucher from a special offer website was totally overlooked and we were treated to a really luxurious stay. We will definitely return.

The hotel was not perfect but taking into account the reasonable price for this kind of hotel gives it an excellent rating. Price of £85 B & B compares well with Cork centre 4 star hotels of around £120.
Swimming pool and room were good and it is in a nice countryside area. Although the entrance and reception are in the original old building, the majority of the hotel is modern ( maybe new about 20 years ago and since revamped)
My only gripe was the cost of drinks in the bar. The wine list started at about €25 if I remember rightly.

My Husband and I stayed at Maryborough Hotel for just one night as a birthday treat. All the staff were friendly and professional. Our hotel room was meticulously clean and very spacious.
After a trip to the high tech gym and a dip in the pool we were more than ready to dine in the restaurant. The menu was so full off great options it was hard to choose, when the food came it was amazing and in the 17 years I have lived in Ireland I can quite honestly say it was the most enjoyable meal I have had here.
After a good nights rest and an equally amazing breakfast, we left feeling it was somewhere that we would recommend to anyone what ever the occasion. We will return with out a doubt :-)
