“Great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

This for the Douglas restaurant!!!We are just back home from a fantastic experience at Marcello's. we had a lovely table for 2, in the corner as we asked for. Had bruschetta classic for starters, what a lovely taste they had. Main was really great to, chicken ravioli was tasty, the only down side, it was maybe too small a portion, the pasta surf & Turf was amazing, and huge, with loads of seafood. Desert had to be tiramisu, not disappointing at all, fantastic taste, and big enough to share. All in all, a fantastic experience, and we will 100% be back. By the way the pricing was great too.

“Terrible first (and last) visit . What a pity”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

No trip advisor account for Douglas so will have to review it here.
Horrible uninspiring Bruschetta to start .
"meat" cannelloni for main which didn't contain any meat just what looked like breadcrumbs. Under seasoned chicken ravioli as well .
40 minute wait between courses in a reasonably quiet restaurant at 6pm.
Were given a huge bottle of "free " wine which we didn't need, want or drink.
Young waitress completely out of her depth .
As it has been open now for awhile teething problems can't be blamed for what was a pretty terrible first impression. Hopefully the game can be upped hugely for the owners and staffs sake but we certainly won't be back to find out as all of us had the same opinion which is a pity as Douglas needs a good Italian restaurant .

“As close to Italy as you'll ever get! ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

We had been regulars to Marcello's in Bandon and were thrilled to visit them in Douglas when they re-opened. Marcello's is authentic Italian cuisine made by a real Italian chef. The rigatoni amatricianna tasted better than ever and the pizza transported us back to our holidays in Italy. Congratulations Marcello and Natalja. We were very sad to see you leave Bandon but seeing how busy you have been since you opened, Douglas was the right move for you. We wish you continued success for the future. Can't wait to visit again soon xxx

“Ex Bully's Customer”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

Visited Douglas this week, very disappointed with meal. Had Marcello's Salad as starter got a bowl of Leaves ,2 tiny pieces of Goats Cheese and a few tiny pieces of Bacon a complete rip off at €7.50/€8.50.
Had Spaghetti Bolognese as main very dry and tasteless.

The Sign outside the Door says "Great Deal in Wines" Cheapest Bottle Savignon Blanc €24, Pinot Gregio €26 no great deal here.

Will not be going back

“Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

This is a new restaurant that opened just in the last week so we decided to pay it a visit on Saturday 2nd August. This place was previously Bully's and has been redecorated, however, they would be advised to remove the net curtains from the windows and the bicycle with the plastic flowers just inside the door. These take from the overall ambience of the restaurant, as do the the serviettes sticking up from the wine glass's. Just small things but it would be so much nicer without them. So to the menu. It is a very varied menu with plenty of choices for everyone.
There was a special offer that weekend which was with every two courses chosen you received a free bottle of house wine.
The house wine was not to our liking but we were allowed to upgrade to a Rioja for €10 extra which was fine. Unfortunately, the wine bottle was brought to the table opened and just poured without offering us the opportunity to taste it first. I had never been in Marcello's restaurant in Bandon so I don't know if this was the procedure there. This aspect needs to be changed to reflect a proper restaurant experience.
For starters we ordered two Parmigiana. This dish has aubergines as an ingredient along with tomato sauce. Neither of us tasted the aubergine, which we mentioned to the manageress. The dish was lovely but would have been a lot better with the aubergine.
For our main courses my wife tried the Sorrento Pizza which was delightful and the base was just right in texture. I tried the Risotto Pescatora and can say honestly that it was beautiful and one of the best Risottos I have had with mussels, prawns and clams.
Overall our experience was very good. The staff appear to be slightly inexperienced but helpful, but please take on board our comments.
