Blarney Castle is situated on a beautiful piece of property, and is worth seeing, under certain conditions.
If you arrive early in the day, and can avoid crowds and lines, you are best off. Signs posted at the Castle do warn you of dangers/risks inside.
At the Castle, there is a very tight and narrow, slippery stone spiral staircase leading up to the Blarney Stone. There is only a rope support on the staricase. You must climb nearly five stories high to the top of the Castle. Flat non-slip shoes are a must.
If you are at all claustrophobic or unsteady, don't attempt the climb. You could get hurt and backing down the steps with people behind you is virtually impossible. Once on top of the castle, you must wait in line, but can enjoy spectacular views while waiting your turn to kiss the stone. You have to be a bit of a gymnast. You lie on your back on a parapet, hanging onto a rail with your head in a hole, and bending over backward while someone hangs onto you, reach out and plant your lips where millions of others have gone before.
Then you must go d-o-w-n another similar tight narrow staircase to the ground, five stories below. Were we glad we did it? Yes. Would we do it again? NO.
