There are many great things about Newpark House - the hosts, the rooms, the breakfasts - but, for those interested in local or family history, its extensive library is a treasure. If you have Irish roots, Declan Barron is a great source of information and tips for researching them. There is more historical information available in Newpark House than anywhere I've visited in more than 20 years of traveling to Ireland.

“A clean, welcoming home”

Newpark House

We stayed one night at Newpark House in August, 2006. We were fortunate to find the two rooms we needed free -- a last-minute cancellation was good luck for us!

The house was clean. Both my husband and I have allergies and had no adverse reactions in the room we were in. The water pressure was fine. Walking around in the house and grounds was a real pleasure.

Note: If you're trying to find this property, be aware that the pub mentioned as a landmark in all the guidebooks (The Rosevelyn Arms or something similar) has been torn down! Watch for the shopping centre instead.

We spent two lovely nights at Newpark house in July of 2006. We found the rooms to be comfortable, well kept and clean. The owners were very helpfull and friendly and the location was very convient as well (though the house is a bit difficult to find). The breakfest was also very good. We will stay there again when in the area.

“Still feeling it”

When we pulled up to Newpark House, I got a rush of excitement. It is a beautiful and kind of scary looking house from the outside - exactly what I was hoping for. When we got inside, however, my feelings quickly changed. Although the rooms are really interesting, and the hosts are very nice, I was really disappointed with the room we stayed in. Yes, there are lots of interesting antiques, but there are also lots of cobwebs, and absolutely no water pressure. The decor is a mix of great antiques and 1970s type decor, and the rug really looked like it had seen better days. We did not expect Newpark to be pristine, but we really expected to at least feel comfortable. The linens were really old and mismatched, and my husband actually wrapped his own t shirt around his pillow. When we woke up the next morning, we were both swollen and congested. My husband has pretty bad allergies, but I hadn't even realized that I had allergies until that morning! The house is definitely interesting, but be prepared!

“A Beautiful Spot for a Night”

The Newpark House was a most unusual spot and I'm very glad we found it for our last night in Ireland prior to flying out of Shannon. I don't think I would have been happy had I stayed there more than one night as there was no water pressure for a shower and very little hot water. For a one-night stay, however, the place was very special. The rooms were filled with antiques and the place felt like it was filled with history. We had a picnic dinner on the balcony outside our room! The owners were very sweet. Since we had a very early flight, they left a nice cold breakfast out for us. If the plumbing could be updated a bit, this place would be an absolute gem!
