“An Ennis Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013 via mobile

We were recently on vacation in western Ireland, and this restaurant and bar was one of our highlights. We live in Washington DC and have such culinary delights like Komi, and The Inn (@LW) and we have to say this establishment is as fantastic as these high end gastro delights!

If you want to enjoy great service and authentic Irish cuisine with modern clean twist, this spot is a must!

“Best Fish in Chips in Ireland!! Amazing Staff!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

We stayed this past summer in Tulla Co. Clare, which was a short drive to Ennis. The first time we ate here for lunch, we were craving fish and chips, but were told it was only on the dinner menu. The manager, however, told us that he would make it happen for us. I am so glad he did! BEST FISH AND CHIPS!! We had fish and chips in every city we stayed (Dublin, Galway, Cork, Kilkee) and none could beat The Cloister's. The manager was so friendly and professional and we ended up back in Ennis the following day. He remembered us from the previous day as we were trying to find a parking space and let us park in their lot even though we weren't planning on eating until later. Once again, we chose to eat there, and were not disappointed. An amazing trip I will never forget! Just wish I could get fish and chips like that in the states! Their wraps and steak were also phenomenal! I highly recommend!

Dear AlisonK.

Thanks so much for your lovely review, the fact that you visited us twice during your vacation in the area is lovely, and I promise I don't ,as a rule try to coax people in by way of our car park, although it does help!!

Hope you enjoyed your visit to Co. Clare.

Kind regards

“Very high standard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

I visited the Cloister restaurant on a Saturday evening in September arriving at about 6.30. It was very fortunate that we did, as we managed to avail of the last free table in the bar as everything else was booked up. So a reservation may not be essential, but is advised to avoid disappointment. And when I say "the bar" - I really mean the restaurant area on the ground floor. It is not really a bar if you mean the kind of place where you ramble in for a pint and watch the TV! This is a sit-down food bar and although the usual beers are avilable on tap, I saw nobody ordering them.

They have an excellent wine list and some nice wines are sold also by the glass. A big bonus for me was that they now stock Dungarvan beers in bottle (and at a reasonable price of €5), so I was able to drink some Helvick Gold with my meal. I had chef's special (from the blackboard) with an excellent chowder to start and lamb as a main. Unfortunately that meant that there was no room for dessert so we had to forgo them (even though they looked very nice).
Service was excellent and so was the food. I would not regard it as expensive considering the quality.

Dear DrJohnDublin.

Sincere thanks for your review, your comments on our pricing relative to our quality and standards are very welcome, as sometimes I feel we are a soft target for some who don't know where or what to compare us to.

Glad you enjoyed The Dungarvan, its been really well received since we began stocking it.

Kind regards

“Without fault.......again.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013 via mobile

Had dinner recently at The Cloister with some friends and once again it lived up to our expectations & continues to be the best restaraunt in Ennis (by far). The food and athmosphere was excellent & of course as always the service was faultless - congrats to all of the team there.
Tip: The upstairs bar is a great place for pre/post dinner drinks & the outdoor area there has good views of Ennis abbey.

Dear Fred_Pickles.

Thanks for the lovely review, it's always great to get feedback from return customers and when it's so good, that's a bonus.

Glad to hear you enjoyed our upstairs Bar, we really are trying to use this more than just the weekends, so with the help of great customers like yourself this may happen sooner rather than later.

With thanks

“Above and Beyond!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Our server Owen was the center of this experience. The food was incredible but the service was so impeccable I am at a loss. Thank you Cloister Restaurant for an unforgettable final night in Ireland. DO NOT MISS THIS RESTAURANT!!! Highly recommend the seafood chowder (2nd place internationally rated), the sirloin, the scallops and pork belly and the sticky toffee pudding and banofee. First class all the way!
