“Cosy, welcoming & comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights during business trip in area. It was most pleasant, being warm, comfortable and welcoming, with friendly, helpful service.

The room was homely, large & decorated well in country style.

The food was 1st class, being freshly cooked & good quality - the evening "meal deal" at £9.99 is very good value.

Service throughout the stay was delightfully friendly & helpful.

The hotel is a little out of the town so car would be beneficial, so it represents a good place to stay at competitive rate if on a touring or golf holiday in the area.

Nice views of surrounding countryside.

Happy to recommend & would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 4; large & comfortable with fine views over countryside.

We had a great three nights and were joined by others from our family, making six adults and one baby. The rooms are great with en-suite and super views, comfortable beds, double glazing and adequate heating from electric convectors.
The restaurant was in a conservatory, again with good views, and we had very good breakfasts and good dinners. well served and congratulations to the chef or chefs.
We will go back!

Room Tip: an easy carpeted staircase to the bedrooms all on the 1st floor. There is no traffic noise and night...

Went for lunch & took advantage of the 3 course for £9,95 deal, Sweet potatoes & chilli soup was superb with just a hint of chilli that stopped it being to hot. Fish chips & peas done to perfection and followed by Sticky Toffee pudding. Good service and fantastic views over the hills. Not the easiest place to get to of find but well worth the effort.

I imagine it's tough to keep an old country house in good nic but this place seems ot have done it's best. There were a few minor things i woud have fixed like some filler around the tiles next to the shower and a window latch in the conservatory (where the food is served ) but realy there were minor. Oh the consevatory looks out onto fielss , with a view of the hils further away (visit beecrags country park for excellent woodland trails high up on a hill top) and the town of Linlithgow (you can see the magnificent palace).
The price we paid ,£59-00 was about as cheap as it get in scotland apart form the deals in prem inn and Travel lodge so i was a bit worried about what we would get. However the rooms were very spacious and clean and nowt really to complain about. The welcome we received was excellent and the service very good and done with a smile (something often lacking in scotish hotels in my view)
I don't often eat in the in hotels either prefering to go out to a local resturant (except for breakfast which was very good here) but the food looked very good and i did noticed a fair few locals coming in to eat there (and its down a long winding road ). I believe the owner is of Indian origin and a few specialist Indian dishes from the kerala region were on offer along with the usual traditional fair. We went for the Kerala, my partner having a sort of spicy stew and myself the curry . Both were excellent and the portions more than enough. Again the service was excellent as well.
So all in all i really can't fault them. Well done .

We stayed at the hotel for four days in September 2012 and enjoyed our time there. The room was very comfortable and spacious, the only drawback was the tight space between the shower and toilet. The food was excellant (more than enough for each meal) and the service good. The views from the hotel were great, you could see the palace at Linlithgow one direction and the two bridges the direction. Overall we would recommend this hotel if you wanted a quiet, friendly and value for money stay.

Slightly disappointing on arrival as the Hotel and its surroundings have a tired appearance.

Long wait for someone to attend Reception but worse was to follow in that we were told that due to a 'computer crash' the Hotel had double-booked and our room was not available. I had booked for a one-night stay with friends via a recognised Booking Agency 3 months in advance and had then telephoned the Bonsyde 3 days before arrival to confirm to be told that my booking was confirmed.

My friends, who arrived about an hour before us, were similarly treated despite the fact that they had telephoned to confirm the day before arrival. This has echoes of a review from August of 2012.

The Bonsyde did arrange alternative accommodation approximately 5 miles away and on reflection this second Hotel was far superior - our friends agreed.

Not good enough - if you have to use this Hotel, telephone on the day of arrival to confirm your booking.

Room Tip: Telephone on the day of arrival to confirm your booking
