Owner description: The magnificent ruins of Linlithgow Palace are set in a park beside a loch. Most of the Stewart kings lived here and numerous renovations to the palace's grand facades and chambers were carried out as each sought to create the ideal modern palace.

“take your time if you can”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

This was considerably better than I remembered it and I was only sorry not to have enough time to look into everything more deeply. The adjacent church is also well worth a look; it's like a mini-cathedral.

“Atmospheric”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Lots to see and lost of stairs to climb up. Not sure how you can view much of it if you are have difficulty with stairs. It is a bit creepy that you will either like or dislike. Could do with more than one toilet and I would have loved an audioguide.

“Historic”

Another of Scotlands palaces in the middle of town and you could miss it if not aware where it is. Great views on top of ramparts and the stories that happened in its past are out of a film.

“Worth a visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Maybe the weather didn't help because of the openness of the palace but it is still worth visiting and seeing the links to Mary Queen of Scots. Bit overpriced for young people though.
