“Scottish Maritime Museum, Dumbarton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

History, enterprise and social interaction outlined Scottish ship building across the globe.
The staff were so helpful especially Ann who had so much time for us. The detail of ship hull design was fascinating and the miniature test tank fun for the children.
The girls in cafe also turn out a mean bacon butty.
Now off to the other Maritime Museum in Irvine.

“a wee treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

We went in because we just happened to be in Dumbarton and were looking for the rock! I'm glad we did because this is a great place. We had an introductory talk about the Denny tank and then were able to explore by ourselves. There is a wealth of information on the Denny shipyards, shipbuilding on the Clyde and the town of Dumbarton, all imaginatively presented. It's particularly interesting if you have an engineering background; I don't, but I still found it fascinating, thanks mostly to the enthusiasm and friendly welcome from the staff.

“Great for a rainy day. Excellent value for money.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

Visited today with our daughters aged 9 and 4.5 years as we were on holiday in Tarbet area. We were given a brief tour by Ronald who was very informative. We then had a look round on our own. There were lots of staff members available should you have any questions. Attraction has a number of interactive displays which our youngest daughter loved but was more interested in the old dial phone in the Records Room.

Our oldest daughter enjoyed the Experiment Tank where you could see which design of boat was quickest along with the wax model of a boat that can be moulded by visitors using metal tools.

There is a flight of stairs to the upper floor as well as stairs leading to entrance of attraction which would make it difficult with a buggy or wheelchair.

Free car park directly outside. Toilet facilities are on the upper floor and there is a small café and gift shop on ground floor. Very reasonably priced at £3 per adult. Kids go free.

Very interesting with lots of information about ship building in the area and the staff who worked there.

“What a find”

Excellent introduction to the Denny Tank from our guide & then left to go around at our own speed & see everything. Looks to be good for children. Thank you.
