We had been told that this Inn offered the best food on the island so were very excited that we had managed to book a night there.
At check in you need to rouse the attention of someone from the bar, ok but makes you feel slightly less than loved. The room had been recently decorated and was fine, but it was a family room so little space. Lacking in little touches like no biscuits with the tea tray. The bathroom had obviously been recently decorated as well and it was a lovely room with a good selection of toiletries, although again nothing like tissues, but I guess its not the The Ritz.
The dining room was full so I recommend booking for dinner. We were extremely disappointed that our prawn cocktail starter appeared to have been made with frozen prawns, particularly as it cost over £5.00. To be fair to them on the menu it said atlantic prawns and we did ask the waitress if they were fresh or frozen, but she said everything was fresh and I think she hadn't been there long. Our mains were fine, my seafood paella was very nice and our desserts were good to.
At dinner we had to fill in a form choosing our breakfast options. Now this clearly makes life easier for the proprietors but at 7pm in th evening I'm not sure what I will fancy for breakfast the next day and I would much rather make my mind up then.
After dinner we thought we would relax in the residents lounge and read the paper. Slight problem was despite loads of lamps, there were no power points so there wasn't enough light to read. Plus the room hasn't been done up and is cluttered with too much furniture and looks very dated. We went back to our room as my husband was looking forwar d to watching Match of the day, but could not get our telly to work. There was no phone in the room so couldn't phone down and he tried the one in the lounge and that didn't work either, something to do with sky reception being on in the bar. more instructions would have helped.
In the morning he tried to let the owner know about the problems with the telly and the lounge, but he wasn't that interested. Again to be fair he was busy serving breakfast, but I would have liked him to listen to us. Breakfast was ok, lacking in any nice additional elements like fruit or yoghurts, it was very much you got what you ordered.
In summary I seem to have moaned a lot, but its fine and reasonable at the price. I get the impression the rooms are a bit of a side line to the pub & restaurant and feel that the owners should go to a bit more effort to make visitors feel welcome.
