“Ok but nothing special”

We had been told that this Inn offered the best food on the island so were very excited that we had managed to book a night there.

At check in you need to rouse the attention of someone from the bar, ok but makes you feel slightly less than loved. The room had been recently decorated and was fine, but it was a family room so little space. Lacking in little touches like no biscuits with the tea tray. The bathroom had obviously been recently decorated as well and it was a lovely room with a good selection of toiletries, although again nothing like tissues, but I guess its not the The Ritz.

The dining room was full so I recommend booking for dinner. We were extremely disappointed that our prawn cocktail starter appeared to have been made with frozen prawns, particularly as it cost over £5.00. To be fair to them on the menu it said atlantic prawns and we did ask the waitress if they were fresh or frozen, but she said everything was fresh and I think she hadn't been there long. Our mains were fine, my seafood paella was very nice and our desserts were good to.

At dinner we had to fill in a form choosing our breakfast options. Now this clearly makes life easier for the proprietors but at 7pm in th evening I'm not sure what I will fancy for breakfast the next day and I would much rather make my mind up then.

After dinner we thought we would relax in the residents lounge and read the paper. Slight problem was despite loads of lamps, there were no power points so there wasn't enough light to read. Plus the room hasn't been done up and is cluttered with too much furniture and looks very dated. We went back to our room as my husband was looking forwar d to watching Match of the day, but could not get our telly to work. There was no phone in the room so couldn't phone down and he tried the one in the lounge and that didn't work either, something to do with sky reception being on in the bar. more instructions would have helped.

In the morning he tried to let the owner know about the problems with the telly and the lounge, but he wasn't that interested. Again to be fair he was busy serving breakfast, but I would have liked him to listen to us. Breakfast was ok, lacking in any nice additional elements like fruit or yoghurts, it was very much you got what you ordered.

In summary I seem to have moaned a lot, but its fine and reasonable at the price. I get the impression the rooms are a bit of a side line to the pub & restaurant and feel that the owners should go to a bit more effort to make visitors feel welcome.

We spent one night at the Bellachroy Hotel this summer and would definitely return if we found ourselves on Mull. The hotel isn't trying to be anything fancy but it is very good if you're looking for friendly staff, hearty food and a good night's sleep. There's also a room full of toys and games if you need to entertain children.

“Good, maybe not brilliant”

We stayed at the Bellachroy for three nights and had a great time on Mull. It's an old building, so it's not surprising that the room was a bit quirky, with an eclectic mixture of furniture. The bed was adequate but not the most comfortable I have even stayed in and having a family room (i.e. a single bed as well as the double) for the two of us was not ideal. Good bathroom. The food was, to be frank, disappointing the first night and for a place that advertises local seafodd as a speciality the choice was uninspiring. The second night we stuck to 'pub food', fish & chips, and this was much better, but there are better restaurants on Mull. Breakfast was adequate, but it was irritating to have to order the night before and disappointing to see some items appear in little bowls.

“Fantastic place to stay”

We have just returned from a stay at the Bellachroy, and what a FANTASTIC time we had.
We went to stay for my Husbands birthday and tho he had to admit being 49 , he mentioned it was the best birthday he has ever had, and he's been all over the world . So what more recommendation could you get ?

Debbie and Nick were the perfect hosts, the food was fantastic, the room was immaculate with a tremendous view and we just could not fault it in any fashion.

We will definately be returning.

“Cracking Little Hotel”

Can highly recommend the Bellachroy after a recent overnight stay. Nice bedroom and en-suite and friendly owners and staff. Has a nicely furnished restaurant with excellent fare and very reasonably priced too. Ventured into the back bar for a pint after the meal and spent the rest of the evening there, with the friendly locals insisting on buying all the rounds. Nice people :)
An excellent hotel which deserves to be patronised!
