“An absolute must see if you are on the Isle of Lewis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

No visit to the Isle of Lewis would be complete without a visit to the Callanish Stones. Unlike Stonehenge you are free to wander around the stones and really feel their size and history.

On the day we visited we were lucky enough witness a couple in full local dress having their wedding photos taken with the stones complete with piper but I don't think this is something they usually lay on for tourists!

The stones are very modestly priced as an attraction and this includes access to the visitor centre. The information in the visitor centre could do with being simplified in places for children but overall was very informative. We didn't walk to the other stones in the area but you can see where they are from the main Callanish Stones.

“Great pice of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Well worth a visit and the bonus is it's free. Super shop and very tasty cafe on site, with freshly baked cakes and lovely staff.

No restrictions, so you can walk right up to the stones and feel a part of history.

“Unmissable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

With family in Stornoway I have visited the stones on many occasions - you never get bored of Callanish and I stand in awe on every occasion. An excellent visitor centre, shop and cafe along with free parking, free entry and direct access to the stones puts comparable attractions in England (e.g Stonehenge) to shame. An amazing sight, feat and experience

“In touch with the earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

A must visit attraction for anyone visiting the Isle of Lewis. Unlike Stonehenge you are free to wander round the stones and feel the energy they transmit. This is not just a site for Druids and earth worshipers this mystical place should be experienced by everybody before they die. For those with more basic needs there is a visitor center with tea room, shop and clean toilets. The food is home made and the prices are reasonable. A great place to visit for all of the family.
