We arrived for an extended family Easter stay on Islay with some trepidation from the wide range of reviews and our past experience of small mid-range hotels in the UK. However: Bedrooms recently made over and were very clean and well decorated with new furniture; breakfast was terrific with plenty of choice and good portions; bar and reception staff were polite, welcoming and helpful and on the one evening that we ate in, the choice was excellent (woodcock, monkfish, local steak, lamb etc etc), portions generous and service prompt and polite. It is on a main road (but was quiet at night). There were a few little negative points and it was a tad pricey for what you got, but not really any more than other places on Islay. We also ate at the Port Charlotte Hotel and the quality and quantity of the food and service were better in Bridgend.
