We were a party of 12 mature adults hoping for a relaxing stay in a homely and friendly environment - what a disappointment. Following are some examples. One couple were informed at check-in that, athough they had booked a double room, there were none available for 'maintenance' reasons. The twin room alternative turned out not to have any lock on the door (it was lying on a bedside locker). When another couple complained about the small size of their room, they were informed that all rooms were the same. This turned out to be totally untrue. The standard of the accomodations were very poor and furnishings, fixtures, decor, facilities in bedrooms all in need of a good overhaul & definitely not 3 star. The cost when booked was £45 per room per night but we were charged £75. Unfortunately we didnt bring a copy of the booking conf e-mail and the hotel wouldnt admit that they had a copy. The staff we spoke to (who claimed to be the owners) varied from downright insulting to rude to indifferent. Latest time for breakfast on a Saturday is 9am (too early!). Service was abysmal - not that we ate or drank very much because of the bad atmosphere. Checkout was 11am but our belongings were gathered up, placed at bedroom doors and housekeeping going on from 10am onwards. We believe that the premises is changing hands and this is no surprise. Hopefully the owners will find some other way to make a living as they are definitely not suited to the hospitality business. We will be providing more precise evidence of mistreatment and overcharging to the Scottish Tourist Board.
