“Just brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2008

Booked as a 1 night stay on our way up to a holiday house in Oban. Good rate of £65 for the courtyard room I'd booked as I'd heard good things on here about even these basic rooms out of the main house.

On arrival the rear of the complex looked terrible, grey rendered shacks which we later discovered were the stables! On entering the complex the sight of the manicured lawns, fountain and main house did wonders to improve the bad first impressions.

We were very kindly upgraded to the main house for free and were delighted at the fab room we got - it's the large room in someone else's photos with the dark chocolate colour scheme. Lovely meal in the restaurant, and very good value considering the high quality of the food and the presentation and service.

Lovely place.

Just back from a fabulous one night stay at the Western House Hotel. What an impressive place! The staff couldn't do enough for us... excellent level of service, formal and courteous without being too stuffy - just the right balance.
Our room in the main building was excellent - really spacious and beautifully decorated - much nicer than many 5 star hotels I have stayed in. The reception areas and bar are very comfortable to relax with a drink - and the restaurant was very cosy (in a good way!) with views out onto the garden and the racecourse beyond.
The food itself was delicious (compliments to the chef!) and again, the service was as you would expect at a 5 star establishment. The wine selection was also very good and reasonably priced - nice bottle of Barolo for £27 - can't say fairer than that!
We booked DBB and I thought it was excellent value for money. I would have no hesitaton in recommending this hotel to friends and family - and anyone who may be reading this! - can't wait to book again!

Our party of 4 couples (50s) booked an overnight stay through Active Hotels.com. for a great price of £49 per room After I booked I contacted the hotel by phone to check if they had rooms for disabled ,as one of our party is in a wheelchair and also booked dinner as it was the Saturday after Valentines day and the restaurant is popular with locals. They allocated room 202 which has a wet room and more space which was ideal. The rest of our party were in rooms adjoining which were excellent with lots of little extras (Courtyard Rooms just outside the main building)
Before dinner we were given pink 'champagne' and canapes in the large cosy lounge. Dinner was something else. We expected a la carte but there was a special Valentines dinner menu which was fantastic value at £26.50. Steaks to die for.
Breakfast was extra at £9.50 but this was also terrific value, served to your table fresh, not buffet style which is sometimes cold.
The break was made even better with the standard of customer service. Every member of staff deserve praise for the way they look after their guests. They are a credit to the owners of this hotel.
Our party meet up once a month for an overnight stay or just a meal and this must count as one of the best yet . We will definately be back.

The best thing about this hotel was the service we received throughout our stay. Both on the reception desk and in the lounge staff were attentive and helpful.

The room was a very good size and clean but perhaps a little cold. the bathroomwas tiled all over and also clean with nice toiletries. Our room was in a separate building over the road from the main building. Although this looked a little dated from the outside the rooms inside were very nice. There was a DVD player in the room and the TV had CNN, Sky Sports, Sky Sports News.

The main building containing the reception area and lounge was very sumptuous and comfortable. We ate in the lounge, where the food was excellent.

We have nothing bad to say about this hotel or our stay.

We recently got married at the end of October at the Western House Hotel.

To be honest, we were a little bit worried before the wedding due to our requirements - indian ceremony, civil ceremony, followed with traditional Scottish Reception, and a Celidh. Once we knew our own requirements, we spoke to Jean (wedding co-ordinator) ,asked whether they could accomadate this event and as they could, we set the date.

On the day of the wedding, Jane was the masters of ceremonies, and it could be seen that much time had been spent by the team preparing and planning this event too. The Western House Hotel had understood precisely the way in which we wanted this wedding to flow and i can safely say that they did an excellent job! Their attention to detail could not be faulted - all staff were more than friendly and nothing seemed a problem for them. The food was exquisite and the service we and all our guests received from ALL the staff was fantastic!

As for the accomadation, i spent the night beforehand in the annex accomadation. Looks can be deceptive! Probably one of the best rooms i've stayed in, except for the honeymoon accomadation in the main building. Words can't desribe it...so i won't bother!

Anyhow, a really nice hotel with lovely members of staff. Whether you want a retreat away from the city, or are staying over for a stopover, i'm sure most will be delighted with the hotel.

A great hotel, especially for medium-range priced weddings. The staff are attentive, and will bend over backwards to help sort out problems if you have any. Food is great, rooms are superbly furnished and decorated, staff are happy and amiable. Location next to Ayr racecourse might be a problem on race days, but definitely a bonus for any punters.

  • Liked — The service was excellent all around
  • Disliked — The location is not excellent, but great if you're going to the racing at Ayr!

This was the sixth time the we had stayed at this wonderful hotel and we would never think to go anywhere else. The staff are always lovely to greet you on your arrival and cannot do enough for you.We have been very luckly that apart from one occasion they have always accommodated us in the main building. The rooms are all named after race courses which adds to the specialty of the hotel. This time Alastair, who is a lovely guy, on reception told us that us that he would show us to the room which was not usual.Because they did not have any weedings that day he had booked us in to the "honeyroom" suite. This has a separate lounge, bedroom, dreesing area, huge bathroom and two balconies. To say that this has the "wow factor is an understatement. Our friends who live nearby came to view the room and could not believe what they were seeing. All of the rooms in the hotel are of very high standard and you will never be disappointed. The gardens are lovely to sit in and are beautifully manicured. This has to be one of the very best hotels of its kind in the UK and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.Fortunately I use this for business visits to Scotland but it would be worth treating yourself to a stay in this lovely hotel.
