“First class food and restaurant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2010

Just back from a one night stay at hotel, a very reasonable £90 DBB for two.

Staff: 8/10, a 10/10 for the restaurant staff - helpful, attentive and efficient while the reception staff was more "clinical".

Food: diner: 10/10, 3 course meal to be chosen from a la carte menu (supplement for beef), everything perfect from salmon platter to meringue and berries/cheese selection via salmon/chicken and vegetables. Breakfast: 8/10, slightly let down by the sausage, not up to the quality of the haggis/black pudding and bacon...

Room: 7/10, very clean, T&C facilities, large plasma TV,iron and board making it slightly above average. However, location of room (ground floor facing car park/bins), bathroom (shower only), temperature (a bit cold when not under the duvet), contributed to lower the rating.
Hotel location: 8/10, 2 mns from the beach and coastal walk path, 10 mns from town center. Minor downsides: proximity of pubs and "corner shops".

Overall: 8.75(!)/10. Will definitely be recommending hotel to friends and might even go back myself (booking a 1st floor sea view facing room).
A special thanks to our great friends (J&W) for arranging the bottle of champagne waiting for us in the room.

Suggestions (in no particular order): newspapers available from hotel or on guests' order, toilet brush, laundry bags to be removed from corridor.

We stayed for one night dinner bed and breakfast, the dinner alone was worth the £80 I paid for 2 people The hotel was very clean All staff were very friendly nothing seemed to be a problem from the manager to the cleaner. I would highly recommend this hotel, it was a 10 minute walk into town near enough and yet far enough away for a nice peacefull night.

Imagine finding a refuge on a stormy November night after being delayed at the port by bad weather. The friendly receptionist escorts you to your room, which is huge and warm. On the landings there are lots of books to choose from. Quiet pint in the lounge. Great bed, good night's sleep listening to the storm outside. In the morning you find you are right on the shire looking out at Arran. Really good full breakfast prepares you for the day ahead. Checkout hassle free and you set out for a day traveling.......

Having read reviews on this Hotel I was a bit worried about headroom if allocated one of the attic rooms so requested not to be allocated one. On arrival was allocated room 10 which was large and spacious on the ground floor, no problems with headroom. The room was well maintained, clean and comfortable. Only downside to room was the en-suite shower room ; it was quite small and the electric shower was underpowered not giving a very good flow of water. Partner has long hair and had a bit of a problem rinsing shampoo out due to water flow. Believe some rooms have mains showers.
Corridors to rooms could do with a little bit of a freshen up but reception, bar and restaurant were excellent, modern and fresh.
On a Dinner, bed and breakfast deal and wasn't dissapointed as all meals were excellent, decent portions and perfectly cooked. Good selection on menu.
Nothing but praise for the members of staff at reception and in bar/reasturant, very friendly and seemed happy in their jobs. Especially the young lady who worked in the bar/restaurant-think her name was Vicky.
Despite the shower and minor decorative issues I would not hesitate to give the hotel full marks or recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice relaxing break only a few minutes easy walk from Ayr town center.
Fully intend to revisit at some point.

First impressions of the hotel was that it was spotlessly clean. The bar / restaurant was modern and bright. The room was lovely although the en suite toilet could have been bigger that was the one and only thing that bothered us during our stay.

The staff were very pleasant and nothing was a bother to them. The food in the restaurant was excellent. We were delighted with the quality and quantity. The breakfast in the morning is massive, you will be set up for the day after it.

All in all a delightful stay and we will definitely go back. It was a great inexpensive treat.

Stayed one night, staff were helpful and obliging. The main entrance, reception area and dining area have obviously been recently decorated and done well. however the room and the corridors I saw needed a bit of work on them. 1970's carpets. The room was OK, quite small but I think this was a single room with a queen size bed, ironing board and iron, nice kettle. The bathroom was a bit less well finished, the shower just in the corner with a curtain.
It has a great location, with the beach just the other side of a carpark (unfortunately at breakfast the car park's recycling bins were a bit of distraction)
Nothing too fancy, and their prices seem to be too high for what you get.

Rooms are a good size - we had a double room that also had a pull-out sofa bed too. Great en-suite facilities. Very clean.

The food and drink is extremely expensive - you're better off taking the 5 minute walk into town and just staying at the hotel for sleeping purposes.

Breakfast not great - nothing special - not the best for vegetarians either.
