Our expectations weren't particularly high before this booking at the Fairfield - simply what seemed like a good value deal through LateRooms and a chance to see Ayr. We had only passed through Ayr before. When we arrived, the weather was wild, windy and wet. The hotel, however, was warm and and every member of staff was friendly and professional. Presumably because the place was quiet (February, after all), we were given a free upgrade and the room was excellent - spacious and well-equipped. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday evening and couldn't fault the meal. Breakfasts were great as well. Although Sunday morning was busy (most guests turning up at about the same time), staff remained composed and friendly and although we had slightly longer to wait than had been the case on Saturday, we weren't made to feel ignored at all.
Unusually for me, I can't think of a single negative thing to say about this hotel. Having received a decent rate for the room, we would have put up with a fair number of faults had they happened. As it was, the stay here really was absolutely first class and I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

“A hidden gem in Ayr”

Mi partner and I stayed here last year in February, for a Valentine break. The room was spotlessly clean, service excellent and the food was outstanding. The hotel is one of the nicest 4 star hotels I have stayed. We loved the hotel so much, we are going back this year at Valentines again and have booked our wedding there in September. I have also driven from Uddingston twice, just to have lunch and always been very impressed. I do not understand the bad comments, as I find the hotel to be outstanding. I would highly recommend this hotel.

“Four Star??????”

My husband and I stayed here overnight on 20th October this year, after attending a wedding at another hotel in the area.

We checked in mid-afternoon, dropped bags and returned at around 10.30pm. I have the following observations about our stay:

1. Room 47 was very noisy - some sort of intermittent mechanical humming which persisted until the early hours and began again at daybreak. I'm guessing we were near to the kitchens? The noise was so bad that I seriously considered getting dressed at around midnight and simply driving home to Glasgow.

2. Room 47 (Glendoune?) had the most uncomfortable hotel bed I've ever attempted to sleep in. I suggest that the manager take the time to go up and try the left hand side of the bed - it has no springing left in it whatsoever. It's just lumpy.

3. Room 47 was in need of a good clean. The drapes over the bed were simply filthy - caked in dust. Please take a look at my attached pictures. There is no excuse for such poor housekeeping in a supposed four star establishment.

I can only imagine what visitors to our country must think when they stay at the Fairfield expecting four star accommodation. In fact, I'm embarrassed to think about it.

When we get it wrong we hold our hands up and accept that we could have done better. On this occassion I totally agree that the level of high level dusting is unnacceptable. I apologise and can ensure you that we have acted upon your comments to make sure it doesn't happen again.
I am afraid I can't explain the noise in the room as it is not near any kitchen or any services.
As for the mattress it has now been replaced along with another 12 which we thought were coming to the end of their life.
I am glad you enjoyed your breakfast. Our service may be a little longer than other hotels as we do cook breakfast freshly to order. The only way we could give a really quick service would be to offer a cooked buffet but we do not believe that offers the same level of quality. Also being a Sunday we do feed 90% of our residents between 9.30am and 10.00am.

“management staff totally unhelpful”

Fairfield House

Oct 2, 2007

We have just returned from a night at the Fairfield House Hotel - our second time there in as many years. We arrived at 12 pm for a wedding which was to take place at 2pm. Our room wasn't ready until 1:15 - we were desperate to get in and start getting ready (3 people to shower and get dressed and my 8 month old son to put down for his nap) and told the staff as much. They replied "Well, we did give you the option of staying over the night before". One way to drum up some business I guess. No appologies were given. It was a desperate dash to get ready and my son missed his nap (read chaos!). The room was lovely and the shower great, however, as night fell, the room turned very cold. We asked for some heat and were told "The heat is on a timer, if we turned your heating on, it would go on everywhere". Eventually they brought some space heaters which we blasted. They didn't have a second key ("it went missing") and in fact had no master key either. Safe.
I found the cleaning staff delightful and the same with the wait staff, but the managment were awful awful awful. They were rude and could barely spare you a glance, never mind a smile.
The breakfast was quite yummy so that partly made up for it.

The guaranteed check in time at the hotel is 2pm, which we do make clear to all guests who book with us. On the day in question 40 of our 44 bedrooms were taken by wedding guests. As we were over 90% occupied the previous night we had to turn round over 30 rooms between our check out time of 11am and 2pm. By 1.00pm we had checked in all but three rooms. As the room in question was a family suite we could not move the occupants to another room as all of our family rooms were taken.
I apologise if you felt we were not sympathetic. With regards to our heating it is timed to come on at 5pm. As far as I am aware we were asked to put the heating on at around 3pm, not nightfall. As was explained this would have heated the whole hotel and we provided portable heaters.
Again I apologise if you felt we were not helpful but we were under pressure to check everyone in before the wedding.
I was glad to hear that you found our team members to be helpful and that you enjoyed breakfast.
