Having recently spent two weeks in hospital I was looking for a break near the sea to recouperate. A friend suggested Ayr and recommended the Ramada Ayr Hotel. I booked direct with the Hotel and the young lady who took the booking was most helpful. When I arrived at the hotel I was offered assistance with my luggage and the times of breakfast and dinner were explained. My room was on the fifth floor looking out to the sea and as the weather was good all the time I was there I had some lovely views.

Dinner in the restaurant was always most enjoyable and the staff couldn't have been more friendly. One night I was not feeling like eating very much and the chef very kindly made me an omlette. At breakfast I requested a poached egg on toast and this was always very nice.

I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly always stopping to chat. The girls in housekeeping were very good and if I was still in my room would come back later to clean it.

All in all I had a very restful holiday with good food and I felt much the better of it. I have booked another few days in August with my friend as a thank you to her for recommending it to me.

“Fantastic hotel”

Ramada Ayr

Stayed at the Ramada Ayr over the May bank holiday weekend on a golf break and had a fantastic time. The rooms were lovely after the completion of a recent refurb. The restaurant service and the food was excellent. The best part of my stay was the staff, they were out of this world friendly, chatty and took care of all your needs. The bar staff were in a league of there own service was great and the duty manager kept the bar open until the small hours for us. Will be going back to this hotel again and again and would recommend it to every one. Centred in the town centre and a few minutes from the beach you could not ask for more

“Avoid at all costs!”

Ramada Ayr

May 11, 2008

First off, Ramada hotels has in general a very good standard.
I know this, as i travel a lot, and has stayed in several Ramada's, and they are usually the first choice if available.

With that in mind, i thought this would be a "safe bet".
The rooms were generally ok, but that is as far as it goes.

Got a room with a scent of au de sewage, and later, our own sewage pool beside our bed. Moved room 1am, and later asked to move back into the first room, as arriving guests were to get "our" new room.

Continental breakfast consisting of 2 bows of fruit, no bread, a slice of cheese and a remnant of a slice of ham.
The cooked breakfast - bacon was cooked, not fried, and it took 40 mins to get some after asking for it.

Bar staff that does not know anything about wine or how to serve it (open a bottle).

Foul smell in the public areas, stinking of old frying fat.
Unhelpful and rude staff. (one staff member shouting "where do you think you are going? i told you the other way!" at an elderly woman when she went the wrong way to see a toilet.)

People having to go through drawers etc themselves in the breakfast buffet to find cutlery.
Not being served if you put yourself in the restaurant part, even if they offered no clean tables in the breakfast part, nor did anything to clean them up.

Staff not cleaning the room for 2 days, and at one point, even leaving the room door open as they left, something i thankfully discovered before anything happened.

You can see for yourself by the attached pictures.
I apologize for the poor quality, but they were taken in low-light with a poor mobile camera... I think you get the idea anyway...

I can list a lot more, but i think this is enough, and the pictures should speak for themselves.

“Enjoyable stay”

Ramada Ayr

Apr 24, 2008

Stayed for two days with my wife on a business trip. The hotel was spacious, clean and efficiently managed.
The Public rooms are spacious and comfortable, the bedroom was recently re-furbished and was light and airy.
Terrific staff who were always willing to help and were really friendly.
Good breakfast with the usual self service. Well cooked and always hot. We ate out at night.
Minor irritants were traffic noise at the front ( Ayr is the boy racer capital of Scotland).
Some reviewers have criticised the car park but we had no complaints and it is about to be re-surfaced and upgraded.
All in all an enjoyable experience.

“OK, but not fantastic.....”

Ramada Ayr

My wife and I stayed at the Ramada Jarvis in Ayr for 4 nights as we were visiting relatives local to the area.

Rooms:
The rooms were clean enough and all had a flat screen TV in them. One thing my wife did not like about the rooms was the fact that there was very little 'enclosed' spaces (like drawers or cupboards) to store her 'smalls' etc. Although a minor complaint, the showel gel in the bathroom was not replaced for 2 of the 4 days whilst we were there.

Car Park:
I agree with a previous review in that there was indeed a lot of glass on the ground (which gave the impression of cars being broken into). This has to be the hardest hotel car park I have ever come across to park in (if you attempt it after 5pm at night), as spaces are all at a premium (no doubt not helped by the number of people visiting the spa facilities in the hotel).

Location:
This is definitely the hotel's best feature as it is right in the city centre and around 30 seconds walk from Ayr Hight Street, and at the same time only 2 minutes walk to the sea front!

Staff:
The staff on reception were extremely helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them (including writing down by hand every ferry time to and from the Isle of Arran). The bar staff always seemed to be local students (not a bad thing in itself) but their knowledge of drinks prices seemed to vary wildly as a Bianco & lemonade + a pint of lager varied from £6.30 to £7.65 and everyting inbetween.

Overall I would recommend this hotel more for its location that the actual hotel itself, but would suggest the same as others in that if you do not expect too much then you won't be dissapointed.
