“Spring break bed and breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We were down in Ayr for an evening wedding reception at a different hotel but decided to stay at The Chestnuts for a wee bit of nostalgia (we stayed there years ago). They had a great offer on (£60.00) 2 people B & B. We had a bar meal the night we arrived and it was delicious - scampi and chips & haddock mornay. Plus the trio of desserts to share.(£25.00 for two people). The bedroom was beautiful with plenty of tea coffee biscuits available in our room. The staff were lovely - very friendly and efficient...this was a lovely stay, breakfast was great. Can't recommend this place enough...I felt really spoiled.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 6 - it was lovely. View on to the road but it was quiet enough.

Stayed for the weekend and by time we left we felt like we knew all staff and some locals too. A real gem, warm, welcoming with great rooms, lovely food, busy bar and staff who are willing to go the extra mile to make your stay.

My favourite hotel in Ayr. Very friendly staff and a good menu. Nice bar with a welcoming fire. Also just a short 5 min walk from the beach front so an easy option for a walk along the sea front after a day of meetings. Ideal for the business traveller and very good value for money.

We had the the fortune of stumbling across the Chestnuts when my company took a contract in Ayr. For 8 weeks we stayed, dined, and lived from the Chestnuts and I can honestly say that I will return here for years to come for social visits. Whatever you want to do the Chestnuts will accomodate you whether it be a quiet stay or perhaps a sporting break or race meeting.
We dined every morning and evening here and never had a single complaint ever. The hotel is impecccably presented and all staff equal in knowledge and they are a credit to the owners who are usually around to greet guests and muck in. The environment is amazing and most nights is was hard not to fall asleep in the bar with the roaring fire. The food, service and everything else was absolutely top draw. If you find yourself in Ayr you have to have the Chestnuts experience.

Room Tip: All the rooms here are home from home and more

We stayed at the The Chestnuts Hotel for a quiet weekend break and that's just what we got, and more.
Firstly, we found this hotel via trip advisor as it was very highly rated. I have read (the very few) negative reviews about this place and I must say that the people who wrote the reviews must be extremely and too overly picky. There are far more positive reviews about The Chestnuts than negative reviews.
The service was top notch and it was always with a smile. We were made to feel genuinely welcome. We booked a table at the restaurant for both nights but decided to eat in the bar. The staff went as far as to reserve us a good table even though they don't really reserve pub tables. The food was absolutely outstanding and plentiful on both evenings as was the breakfast. The food is cooked to a very high standard and is brilliantly presented, the chef/s are a real credit to the hotel.
The accommodation was spacious, warm and cosy. We stayed in room 2 facing the front of the building and despite being near the main road not once were we disturbed by noise and we stayed on a Friday and Saturday night.
We spoke to another couple whilst in the bar and discovered that the bar/hotel is very popular with the locals.
We had an excellent stay and we honestly cannot find a single fault to report, it was really that good! We'll definitely be back and will be bringing the rest of the family also!
This place is definitely worth a stay!

Warm, welcoming, careful about detail (courtesy tea and water in room, explanations as to the plumbing), wonderful breakfast, real coal fires, comfortable bed, more than reasonable prices, what more could you want? The location is splendid, easy access on foot and by car to the town centre, a step away from the seafront. Kind and attentive staff, who always have tie for you. No noise from the bar (which plys a good trade). The only thing they don't do is control the weather :-)

Room Tip: I was on the first floor, in the front of the house, but it was perfectly quiet (apart from the seag...
