went to station hotel ayr for our anniversary . tried to book in at 2.50pm was given room 345 . when we got there someone was still makingn the bed back to reception they put 2 more cleaners in to get it ready .after waiting 30. minutes went up and was disgusted at the state of the room .carpet was burnt wallpaper hanging off wall all cupboards were broken window held up with piece of wood holes in walls and bed disgusting .wouldnt let a dog stay here.. dont say you werent warned

We have just come back from a 2 night stay at the Station Hotel, Ayr. Booked with Newmarket holidays as we went to see the Edinburgh Tattoo. Check in was quick and we were allocated room 233. Oh dear..............The main bathroom light was not working, we opened the wardrobe door and the handle fell off, there was a small cupboard marked mini bar but inside it was empty not even a fridge let alone a mini bar and the door was loose. The windows were dirty - when was the last time they were cleaned I ask myself! There were 2 grills under the windows that were hanging off looking very unsightly. The carpet was ill fitted and had an iron burn in it. The grouting around the bath was filthy as was the plug hole in the sink.

Evening meal was ok but I had to ask for my dessert and when it came it looked like it had been thrown on the plate, it should have been fruit crumble but looked very unappetising.

Breakfast - food was greasy and for the most part cold. The queue for breakfast was down the corridor.

We went to the Tattoo on Saturday night (Brilliant!) and knew we would be back around midnight so ordered sandwiches for our return. We both ordered beef........mmmm you might say but no, they were warm, the bit of salad garnish was wilted and the crisps soggy so how long since they were made I ask myself??? and at a cost of £3.95 each - we'd have been better buying a Boots meal deal during the day.

Overall - save your money and book elsewhere!!! Wish we had.

had a few problems getting confermation when i booked but after a few phonecalls the receptionist leeann had it send in minuets other than that the hotel is a bit dated but from the pictures i kind of knew what i was to expext!

We stayed at this hotel as I wished to have easy access to the Ayrshire coast. It is an impressive building with plenty of car parking space. This is not the hotels fault but on our arrival at the car park three young men were using the corner of the hotel as a urinal.However on entering we were greeted with blank looks by the two receptionists who appeared to be more interested in talking about and booking their own holiday than helping us start ours. We were given a room which was numbered 300+ but we eventually found it off the second floor and it was without doubt the longest I have had to walk to a hotel room, fortunately we are fit and healthy but would not recommend the room to anyone who has problems walking or carrying bags up stairs, as although you could get the lift to the second floor there were further stairs to reach the room. As indicated in previous posts the lift is pretty old and has a life of it's own. The bedroom was clean but the bathroom had seen better days and my wife would only use the shower not the bath. The rest of the staff were friendly (including cleaners and breakfast staff).
On booking out I waited to be asked about my stay but the (same) receptionist was as friendly as on arrival.
I will not be visiting this hotel again.
