The lodge was beautiful and very clean. The lodge itself was obviously of 5* quality, however it was the small touches that were lacking. MAKE SURE YOU BRING toilet roll as there is NONE! Also bring hand soap, washing up liquid or dishwasher tablets, sponges/ cloths, tea & coffee for night one, a lighter or matches to light the fire... the small essentials basically!
The place was very quiet (other than the building work next door which we were not told about before we arrived) ideal for children and dogs to play without fear of vehicles or strangers. We had the place to ourselves on 2 out of the 5 days that we stayed there and one family at time on the other days! It was very peaceful.
I will say that there was not much to do except read a book; the walks that they mention on their website were rubbish! Unless you call a 5 minute each way walk along the very overgrown riverbank a nice walk! We ended up driving 35km to Glentrool forest for a decent walk instead.
I'm in two minds about recommending this lodge to others, I would have to really think about who I was talking to. For example, an elderly couple or family with young children who are happy to stay in the lodge and keep themselves entertained would enjoy this accomodation very much. A young couple or anyone who likes to venture out of a day (especially with active dogs) would do well staying somewhere else.
REMEMBER: Don't leave for the lodge without your toilet roll!!!!
