This was our second visit to Burrastow House - we had been wanting to return to where we got married 8 years ago and finally made it in August this year as a special treat. It was everything we had hoped for and the Vaila room in the old house with 2 adjoining rooms was perfect for us and our 2 children, with a great view across the beach and a bookcase full of children's books. The decor and furniture in the room has been updated since we last visited and was very comfortable with loads of room, rich colours and beautiful unique furniture and rug. The TV was small and grainy, but this didn't matter to us (the children watched DVDs on a laptop) and we had a wifi signal from our room most of the time.
Pierre, the owner of the house is a very talented cook and uses the highest quality fresh ingredients so I find it hard to believe previous reviews mentioning poor food. We stayed for 4 nights and had dinner here for 2 of them. There is a different set menu every evening. Pierre checked the main course with us earlier in the day to ensure we and our children would enjoy our meal and provided a vegetarian alternative for me and I can honestly say that everything Pierre has cooked for us has been outstanding and the service from Pierre and his staff was excellent.
The location is amazing - right on a stony beach with great walks around the nearby coastline. It is remote enough to not see anyone all day yet you can access all the main tourist locations on the mainland from here. The weather was so good that we got to snorkel in the sea and an inquisitive seal popped its head up to watch us playing on the beach one evening. There is a table with chairs on the edge of the beach for guests to enjoy, so I'm not sure why another reviewer commented that there was nowhere to sit outside.
If high tech TVs, lots of choice at dinner, wall to wall carpets and locked doors are important to you, then this probably isn't the place for you. However, if you want plenty of privacy, peace and space in an elegant and grand, yet comfortable and homely, accommodation offering high quality dining and fantastic service in possibly the most stunningly beautiful and unspoilt place in the UK, then you will LOVE it here (and I can't think of a better place to get married!).
