“Not so good”

Watermill Hotel

Apr 13, 2008

Phoned booking, then luckily phoned to double check 1 week before to find there was no booking. They even took CC detail so we were baffled after booking twice to arrive and they still never had our booking, unlucky for us they still had a room available!!

Rooms are very noisy from traffic, no double glazing and floor boards are VERY creaky. The shower was the worst ever with no pressure. Would only stay here again if it was the only option.

Having read reviews on here I was quite scared at what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. This hotel was lovely and the staff were very helpful. The room was nice and warm. I had read that if you were right next to the river you couldn’t sleep from the noise of it and the traffic but I couldn’t hear anything.

As it was Christmas there was a party night on downstairs but we couldn’t hear anything from them either when we went to our room.

The breakfast was great as well. Plenty to choose from and you could have as much as you liked.

I would definitely stay here again.

The Watermill is a bit of a favourite of mine; handy really because I seem to spend a lot of time there on business.

Its decent value if you book the evening meal with the room. Internet is expensive but you can access two laptops for the one charge.

The decor is average and the size of the rooms differs greatly. Ask to move if you are not satisfied. The bar and the dining area needs some TLC and if you are looking for luxury this is not for you.

The staff here are very good. Nothing is too much trouble: we were late one night and they kept our meal ready for when we finally arrived. The chef made a special trip to get us a really nice piece of steak on one occasion when we had friends joining us and so on. It does make a difference.

I stayed at the Watermill for 4 seperate weeks in June 2007. I was there for work.

The first night I arrived I was given a room right above the water. I did a U turn and went straight back to reception explaining that I was there for work and not a tourist and needed a good nights rest and the noise from the water would keep me awake.
I was offered a choice of 2 rooms (both smoking) and over the road.
I took one and to be fair the noise from the road wasn't too bad and there was very little smell of smoke as the windowa were open all the time.
The room was on the top floor and I was generally happy. The main problem the first week was the plumbing - I couldn't get any hot water in the sink so had to boil the kettle to have a shave. There was a lovely electric shower.

Second week the room was on the second floor and I had discovered that every floorboard in the place squeeked! I was kept awake by fellow residents upstairs (and through the walls) moving about. Sadly I forgot my earplugs!

Over the full four weeks I had a cataloque of problems -mainly with noise (those floorboards again! and other residents making a noise on their way to bed after a pint or six)
The plumbing is well below par in the Hotel, too - I had one room which had the problem of the water from the sink coming up in the shower. Another room I couldn't get any hot water from the shower (a mixer tap thing over the bath)

I also had cracked floor tiles in one bathroom which I nearly tripped over every time.

I went to reception with my problems and to be fair the staff usually did their best to help me and I moved rooms a few times until I was happier.

The staff were friendly and pleasant and the hotel has a family run feel about it. The girl that checks you in one night could be serving your beer the next evening for example.

The breakfast staff were great and very friendly.
The food was acceptable and portions good - bar food prices were quite high, though. It is Paisley and not Glasgow or Edinburgh after all!

I must say that I was never really happy at the Hotel and will be back in Paisley for work and wont be staying there again.
It is an old building and really needs some serious work done. I know some would say it has charm but modern travellers need comfort!

If you get a room with a view over the water - pray it has been a dry month or the noise of the water will keep you awake for ever - even with the secondary glazing.

Watermill Hotel

I stayed at the Watermill Hotel for 7 days in 2005 for a personal holiday. The hotel certainly has it's old world charms, though lacks slightly in the true luxury that is presumed in the advertisement. The furnishings are most definately not high grade, with wabbly bed frames, sagging mattresses, and dressers with scratches, gouges and dings. The bar is very relaxed and festive, the food very good. The continental breakfast was more than adequate, if you got down to the dining room early enough, as frequently, there would be only a few items left, and the staff did not refill the table. The staff is very helpful, and the environment very comfortable. Location is very convenient to whatever you might want to do or see in the Paisley area. I would most certainly stay there again.
