We stayed in the Cuil-an-Daraich Guest House for 5 nights. When we got there, the building on the outside looked very old and full of history. Inside was very modern-looking and comfortable. The staff were friendly. The location was a bit out of the way of shops/pubs etc. Would not be able to walk anywhere. But the location was beautiful, overlooking the River Tay. We stayed in the purple room, which i think is the best looking room, with a four poster bed. Me and my boyfriend had gone for our anniversary, and it was perfect. A few small complaints...
A few cracks in the wall. It is a very old building, one of the curtain rails came loose, and fell. The windows were very old, and a bit draughty. The en-suite was freezing, there was no radiator in there, except a heated towel rail, and we couldnt find the switch for that, no one had told us where it was (turned out it was on the outside in the main room behind a chair) but we only found it on the second to last day. The glass shelf in the bathroom was half out the wall.
There is a lovely dining room downstairs to eat breakfast. The staff will ask what time you would like it and that would be the same time everyday unless you have said otherwise. Food was nice, with the options of cereals, toast, coffee/tea making machine, and an English breakfast. There were a selection dvds and videos fr you to watch either in the dining room, or in your room. Takeaways for forbidden in the rooms, which is completely understandable, but you weren't allowed to eat anything in your room such as crisps, snack foods etc. As there was no option of tea being made, we had to go out the Co-Op in Pitlochry to get some stuff, as we'd be starving from breakfast that morning.
All-in-all a good stay, friendly staff, lovely house, and surrounding areas with brilliant views. Would probably come back again.
