“Up to expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2007

I had booked before the new owners took over but was delighted to find the place just as I expected - contemporary, stylish, clean - we had a huge comfy bed, a gorgeous view over the hills and a warm welcome.

It felt more like a hotel than a B&B - the breakfats conservatory is lovely and the porridge with whisky, cream and brown sugar has to be sampled! Great breakfast, great service and I will definitely be going back.

We ate at East Haugh House - delicious food.

Following a poor overnight experience close to St Andrews we arrived at Craigatin for a one night stay and were delighted with a warm welcome and recommends for things to see and do.

The Guest House is under new ownership and the new proprietors will undoubtedly make a success of their new venture.

Exceptional standard of room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Very tasteful decor. An unequivocal recommendation.

My wife and I have visited Pitlochry several times, but this was our first time at Craigatin and I must say, we were very impressed, and will certainly be returning. We had not booked in advance and, unfortunately, we could only get one night as the property was fully booked for the rest of the week.
We got to the Guest House and were greeted by the very friendly and welcoming proprietor, and given the option of the three remaining rooms. We weren't pushed into taking a room, and just allowed to take our time to decide on whether or not we wanted to stay. When we went into each of the rooms, they were all well appointed and decorated, and all very cosy and warm (some of the other properties we had tried already that day were very cold and unwelcoming, so this was a very welcome change).
In the end, we decided on the quirky room 7, with its sloping ceilings, and large walk-in shower.

There were, perhaps, a few minor faults in the decorating/maintenance of the room, but certainly nothing that detracted from the overall feel of the room, or our experience of the Guest House.

Overall, I will definately be recommending this property to friends and family, and will be returning (provided we can get in early before they are fully booked!).

We had a lovely stay at the Craigatin in July. Accommodation was very clean and comfortable and rooms were very classy and tastefully decorated as one would expect from a boutique hotel. Despite the high quality we were not charged hotel prices. The breakfast was amazing. A true gem for Scottish hospitality - have recommended to our friends and family. Well Done!!!

Lovely B&B. My husband and I stayed one night a the Craigatin House & Courtyard. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and elegantly furnished. Our breakfast of haddock cheddar omlets was absolutely delicious!

The one problem that we had was that we were staying in the bottom level and could hear other travelers above us walk around in the early hours of the morning which made it a little hard to sleep.

Stayed in 2 rooms at Craigatin (they couldn't accommodate us for 3 nights in one room midweek in mid September which says a lot about the popularity of the place). We had 2 nights in a "standard" room on the second floor and one night in a "luxury" room on the courtyard ground floor. We actually preferred the standard room because of the views, although it was a little smaller and slightly less well furnished than the courtyard room, which suffered from a lack of views and natural light. In each it was quite easy to flood the bathroom due to a lack of shower screens. However both were great value.
The whole place is run with cheerful efficiency and is spotlessly clean - I always do a cobweb count wherever I stay and here it was zero. Breakfasts in the conservatory are brilliant.
Craigatin is just outside the town but an easy five to ten minute walk to the shops and restaurants.
I can't imagine anyone could be dissapointed by staying here

I usually write reviews about the quality of the rooms, beds, and the service but those areas have been amply covered by this property's many previous patrons. In truth, I make many of my judgments based on those little happiness sounds my wife makes as she settles into her new surroundings. Sometime it's small words like "lovely" or "charming" but more often it takes the form of a small shriek of joy or a satisfied sigh. Our stay at the Craigatin House & Courtyard was packed full of those little happiness moments that can make recreational travel so worthwhile whether it was opening our bedroom window to the sounds of the river valley below or just sitting in the beautiful courtyard gardens having apple pancakes with real maple syrup.

On a different note, every Monday bag pipers march down main street to a show at the review grounds. It has a definite tourist ring to it but is a lot of fun nonetheless.
