Booked on half board basis for 2 nights - internet blurb stated all rooms with showers, welcome pack etc. On arrival the place had an ovewhelming smell of cooked lamb, looked shabby but staff ok. Directed to room 212 (mind carpets on the way, though, they are loose and rumpled). large room, good size, but again, shabby. NO shower - just a small bath with jaccuzzi that DIDNT work. The bathroom floor tiles had no grout and the basin was cracked. good sized bed, tho, which was clean and comfy. Dinner was an experience. The coach parties got preferential treatment - how come us mere mortals dont get to dine in the ballroom, which looked lovely, from what we saw from the doorway! ? the meal came promptly, no complaints about the staff, but the meat was dry and the veg looked like it had been sat under a heat lamp all night. the cheese and biscuits looked like they had suffered the same fate as the cheddar was sweating heavily! breakfast was good, but the self service was for coach parties only - the rest of us got asked what we would like and it was brought to us. no chance of over filing our plates there then! evening meal on following day was equally as dissapointing - we did toy with the idea of joining the huge queue at the chippy up the road, which smelt divine and was doing a roaring trade, but decided to stick with it and the results were no better than the night before. on the whole - a disappointing hotel, which was a pity because the area is lovely and we had a wonderful time. lots to do and see - friendly people - had a lovely lunchtime meal in the indian restaurant up the road..... wouldnt rush back to the Fishers tho......!!!

We booked in on August 9 2007, and we were asked to pay before we checked in, we were allocated Room 314, this was the most disgusting room we have ever stayed in. The wallpaper was hanging off the walls, the carpet had a threadbare hole with underlay showing, it was a hovel. we complained to reception and they apologised. Every other place was booked that night so there was no chance of changing. the full breakfast was ample, however, it tasted so awful we couldn`t eat it. the hotel at the back is filthy and I would love to check out the kitchens. When we left there was an envelope on reception and the hotel refunded £19.00 of our £69.00, Every carpet on all floor outside the lifts was threadbare, absolutely the most appauling hotel ever!!!!!! Don`t go!!!!! It`s a hovell!!!!be warned.!!!!

This hotel is one of the worst we have ever stayed at . As soon as we arrived there was a problem the receptoin area was stinking as if something had been spilt and not cleaned up for weeks . The room was really old fashioned and the bathroom wasn't even clean . There was a gap that big under the door I could put my mobile back in the room without even opening the door . I know it was a last minute deal and don't expect to get the best room in the house , but I expect it to be clean . Made the best of it and decided to go down for dinner , the staff were all nice and friendly and tried there best but the food was discusting , my wife and I both had the cheese to finish , it was warm and sweaty as if it had sat out all day . Ther were a number of foreign guests staying , if this is the standard of service we are showing visitors to our country then the tourist industry is doomed . We'll never be back . The fishers hotel isn't much better

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. Here is my diary of events.
Day 1. Check in ok, room ok and on the ground floor facing gardens. Bathroom was in poor condition.
Went for drink before evening meal, everything ok so far.
10 guests in dining room and 4 staff. Ordered meal and 2 glasses of water. 10 minutes before water and soup arrives, the soup container was 4 or 5 yards from our table but everything was done in slow motion. Main meal arrives some time later.
Meal was ok. Went to bed about 10.30pm as we had had a long journey, but unfortunately the noise from the room above was driving us mad, no it wasn`t a party just guests doing normal things like walking, showering ,opening drawers etc. We could here everything they were doing the floors and ceilings were so thin. After about an hour they settled down to sleep and so did we.
Day 2. Awoken at 6am by the guests above doing their ablutions.
Breakfast ok but slow.
In the evening went for a drink in the bar before dinner, ordered one brandy and dry ginger and a bottle of cider. The brandy was put in a large tumbler so I asked if they could put it in a brandy glass as they had done on the previous night, was told they only had one brandy glass and it was out already, they had run out of dry ginger and cider but would see if they had some in the other bar. Horray! we got our drinks. Now to the dining room for our evening meal, tonight there are 18 guests and 5 staff. We ordered 2 glasses of water and two soups to start, one meal from the menu of the day and one meal from the a la carte. We were told there would be a 30 minute delay for the a la carte menu. That seemed ok. We waited and waited but didn`t recieve either the water or the soup, finally after 20 minutes we asked if there was a problem with water and soup this was brought about 5 minutes later. and a further wait for our main meal. Meal was ok.
Then off to bed later whilst we listened to the evening entertainment from above for an hour.
Day 3. Awoken again by the guests from above at 6am.
Breakfast ok but slow.
Went to the bar and gave the same order as on the previous nights` horray! theyve got the brandy glass back, but have no dry ginger or cider. Lemonade all round for us.
Went in to dinner, only 6 in the dining room and 2 staff, we are out to cause confusion tonight when we both order from the a la carte menu. water arrives in a few minutes and soup about 6 minutes, this is great. After 45 minutes a waitress came over to say our main meal would be about 5-7 minutes, but left the dirty soup bowls on the table. A few minutes later another waitress came to say the meal would be another 5 minutes and cleared the soup bowls. Finally the meal arrives, had we ordered something exotic, no just steak and chips.
Off to bed for the hour with our upstairs neighbours before going to sleep.
Our last morning and revellie is 5.45am from upstairs today, thank god we are leaving, we can`t keep this pace up much longer.
To sum up our visit, food ok but don`t expect fast food here.
rooms ok, but don`t stay on the ground floor. If you drink brandy take your own glass, on second thoughts take your drinks as well.
