“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2014

Just back from a 3 night DDB deal and have to say it was marvellous. The negative points were that the service in the dining area at breakfast was slow at times and the broken window sash was never repaired, although we reported it twice, however the positives outweighed these as the location was superb, the pool was lovely and quiet and the food was fantastic. Our bedroom was in need of an upgrade (in particular the bathroom) as it looked a bit dated and would have benefitted from a coat of paint however it was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I would definitely return and would recommend this hotel if you a re visiting Pitlochry for a few days.

Just back from a 3 nite stay on a DBB basis...the food was not the best...6 courses taster menu...vy vy small portions & both my partner & I were hungry an hour later...breakfast was not much better, in fact the service from staff was actually shocking, we waited 50mims on or breakfast & there were many people complaining. On a more positive note the pool & leisure facilities were good & reasonably quiet!! The room was clean but vy dated furniture & furnishings, I defo think the hotel Is in need of some much needed refurbishments!!!

My husband I have just returned from our two night stay at Scotland's Hotel and Spa. We booked a midweek Rejuvenation package at £139 each for 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and 3 taster spa treatments (facial, massage and body scrub).
Upon arrival we checked into our room and were able to book a time for dinner that night. We were impressed with the size and cleanliness of the double room we were allocated (Room 121). The room and bed were very comfortable and we had everything we needed.
Before dinner we decided to go to the hotel bar for a drink before going to the dining room. As we politely spoke to the barman as he made our drinks, he thought it was appropriate to swear a couple of times in casual conversation which we weren't particularly impressed with and didn't really seem in keeping with the tone of a nice hotel which seemed to primarily cater for couples on a romantic break (as we were).
Dinner was the 6 course taster menu both nights. In all honesty, I had prepared myself for this to not be very filling and had already located a chip shop in the main town for later just in case. We had thought this because the menu was described as 'dainty' portions/variations of dishes on their main menu.We were very pleasantly surprised. While the initial taster, soup between the starter and main and final cheese taster were very small portions - the starter, main and desserts were good sized portions. The food on the first night was absolutely fantastic, particularly the blade of beef main. Both my husband and I agreed it was one of the best meals we'd had together.
While we were there we made good use of the pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. On the first day it was very busy but on the second day we visited the pool for an hour in between the check out and check in time and were lucky enough to have the whole leisure area to ourselves. We were booked to go for our spa treatments in the afternoon before dinner time. Unfortunately, my husband was unable to get 2 of the treatments for medical reasons. This was a complete surprise to us but the ladies at the spa were very nice about it and did what they could for him. In the end he got about 30/40 minutes of the 1 and a half hours of treatment he had booked for. I was able to experience all three and can honestly say the treatments are fantastic and very relaxing. The spa staff definitely know their stuff!
We spoke to the general manager Brian after our visit to the spa about what had happened regarding my husbands spa treatments. He was very helpful and agreed that we should have been told/asked about medical conditions at the time of booking and offered to take money off of our bill or upgrade us to the a la carte menu for dinner that night at no extra charge. We decided to upgrade our meal and again, the food from both the taster menu and a la carte menu were fantastic! From start to finish dinner was served over about an hour and a half/2 hours. We found this very enjoyable as we were able to really enjoy the food and a lovely bottle of wine. We ordered the Chenin Blanc both nights and highly recommend it.
Breakfast on both days was also great with a good variety of cereals, juice and yogurts to choose from at the buffet as well as croissants/pastries. We were also provided with our choice of tea or coffee and some toast at the table. We then each had a hot breakfast both mornings, having the house breakfast plate and eggs Benedict. Both were lovely and a great set up for the day.
The hotel is right in the middle of the town and has a car park for guests. It is very easy to walk from the hotel to the various shops/restaurants/bars in Pitlochry.

We've given 4 stars as we were disappointed about the spa treatments for my husband but appreciate that the general manager was very keen to help us with this and made up for the disappointment nicely with the lovely meal on our second night. Also because of the language of that one member of bar staff. It was a little incident but it's not what you would expect when being served anywhere in my opinion.

Our overall experience of the hotel was great and it was ideal for our visit. We went with a view to relax and that's exactly what we were able to do. We would definitely hope to return in the future.

Stayed Sunday 20th July for 2 nights b&b, suite was lovely bed very comfortable & soft furnishing were very plush however a couple of minor repairs are required; curtain pole was taped together & the sofa needs a cushion or 2 replaced. Purely cosmetic issues that didn't detract from our stay at all. Considering the busy time of year the staff were on the ball at breakfast & did their very best to clear tables, reset them & seat everyone as quickly as possible. Breakfast was an absolute treat, I can recommend the poached eggs & toast & the french toast with bacon cinnamon & maple syrup. Their was also a good selection of cereal, fresh fruit & fruit juice. We made good use of the pool & sauna/steam room which was open from 8a.m., plenty of fresh towels available but again cosmetic repairs needed. Had our dog with us & she was made very welcome, would definitely stay again ......thank you for the lovely fresh fruit daily it was much appreciated

Room Tip: Rooms in the hotel have better wifi connection, ours was in The Bank across the street so no wifi wh...

A bit disappointed with our visit. Had requested a high floor room in a quiet location as we like to have the windows open for fresh air. Phoned the hotel the day before and were told that we had been allocated a room in the separate building called the Bank House on the first floor. Do realise that they cannot guarantee requests and did tell them that we would not arrive until 7.30pm. Can only assume that our room was given to someone else as we had a pokey wee room on the ground floor overlooking a drying green and path which was covered in weeds. It did however look freshly decorated. Couldn't leave the windows open for security reasons. Dinner on the first night was the six course taster which I must say was very good. Breakfast on the other hand was poor. Had to queue for ten minutes then wait another ten for our order to be taken. Guests were constantly asking if their order could be taken. The wrong order came first time round. When it did arrive the haggis was soggy and the bacon very salty. Surely in this day and age buffet is the way forward. Portions were small and had to ask twice for the orange juice and yoghurt to be replenished. The bar area is so quiet you felt awkward having a conversation! Not very welcoming and not even any background music. On the plus side all areas were very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Plenty free car parking. Lovely pool. Got the feeling that things are very much being done on the cheap. Think they're a bit short staffed in the dining area. Don't think we'd return.

Room Tip: Don't get a room in the Bank House as you have to walk over the road to the main hotel. Not fun...

Spent two nights here with my wife and two friends. We had originally booked two twin rooms but were given an upgrade to two double rooms in the Hotel annexe. This was the best ever stay in this hotel. The rooms were excellent, spacious, comfortable, and relaxing. As this was our friends first visit to this hotel, they were really impressed.
We had booked DBB and to say the food was great is an understatement, a six course taster menu was served on both nights, different courses each night. My wife requires a gluten free diet and this was no trouble at all to the excellent restaurant staff.
We have previously stayed at this hotel several times but all the staff from the reception to the restaurant were so friendly and efficient. This hotel has now become my joint favourite along with the Craiglynne in Grantown on Spey. A very big thanks to all the staff in the hotel for making this a memorable stay. Mr Crerar you can be proud of your staff in this Hotel.

Room Tip: Just ask the receptionist for the type of room you want

My Mum and I stayed at the Scotland Hotel in April 2014 for 2 nights. Upon arriving at the hotel we managed to get the one remaining parking space available as there's not many available for the size of the hotel. We found the hotel to be a bit dated in reception/hallways etc but it sort of added to it's traditional charm a bit. We had a twin room - quite small but very clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a great location....up a quiet street but a minutes walk from the main street with shops and cafes. Breakfast was beautiful. A huge choice of cereals, fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt etc then your choice from the cooked menu. I highly recommend the cinnamon french toast with a side of bacon mmmmm! The staff are very friendly and helpful too! The spa is small but clean and usable. Nice bonus if the weather's bad. All in all I would recommend the Scotland Hotel for a short break even although it would benefit from a little refurb. But if you look beyond that and appreciate it for what it is then you'll have an enjoyable break.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor facing the hills/railway line in the main building, not the annex.
