“Amazing Location shame about the Hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We arrived on Saturday the 4th of Feb. We had been out doing stuff in the morning, so we were looking for some lunch to be told you don't serve lunch! I find this incredible being a so called 3 star hotel!

My girlfriend was then given the room key, she went to the room in a seperate building to find the TV didn't work, then returned to reception to be given a key for a room that was stinking of smoke!!! At this point she was told that the TV was fixed in the orignal room, so she went back and settled in. Then house keeping just decided to let themselves into the room without even knocking the door!!

She then went to the spa area to find that the jaccuzia was not working!

I then returned with friends to watch the rugby and have a beer, we waited 15 mins at the bar and eventually left when we couldn't find a memeber of staff.

That evening when we returned to the hotel, the TV still didn't work and then we discovered the toilet was broken! Honestly do the house keepers actually check these simply things? There was also red lipstick marks on the net curtains!

Breakfast in the moring was good until the kitchen staff decided to have a full arguement for the dinninig room to hear screaming at the top of there voices! Also you might want to remove have eaten jam pots from tables, and not expect the next person sitting there to use them!

On check out we were offered no discount or any sort of explaination. At this point I went to use the toilet by reception as the room toilet didn't work! I shut the door in the toilet to find used toilet papaer on the floor!! This is a complete disgrace and can't understand how your cleaning staff did not see this, or any staff members who do toilet checks!

Such a shame this hotel could be very nice.

(I did write a letter of complaint which took the hotel weeks to respond to, it pretty much summed up our experiance!)

Stayed on a two night B&B with dinner on the first night deal.
Breakfast was a buffet style and dinner was from a set menu, although there was the option to purchase from the main menu for an extra cost for dinner. Only negative for both breakfast and dinner was the strong smell of fish.
Sauna and steam room were good as was the small pool and Jacuzzi – not too busy just after breakfast and late afternoon. Gym was a little tired looking with some of the machines (spin bike handle) needing replaced due to wear and tear. You also have to sign a disclaimer before you use the gym The downside of the gym was that there was no disinfectant and/or wipes to clean the machines after use, so not vey hygienic.
Hotel was well located, but in need of a lick of paint and general upgrading as it was looking quite old – woodchip, need I say more!
There was a constant creaking coming from the corner of our room (202) which was annoying?? and there could have been a place to hang coats in the small corridor outside the bathroom.
Drinks no more expensive than the main pubs and plenty of free parking available

Thank you for taking the time and reviewing your recent stay with us at Scotland's Hotel, thank you for all your comments not sure where you were getting the smell of fish unless guests around your were all eating fish. Good to read you made time to use our leisure club and will get the handle seen too my apologies that we had no wipes to sanatise the machies after use. We do have a rolling maintenance program in place and with such a large building this all takes time but we are working on this 24/7. Thanks again for your review

We have just returned from a most enjoyable short stay at Scotland's Hotel which was very comfortable. The staff were very welcoming. The food was very good as was the service. We even managed to fit in a swim in the pool which was not too big and only about four and a half feet deep which suited us as we are pensioners and not very strong swimmers. The jucuzzi was lovely and warm. All-in-all a very nice hotel and good value for money.

Set in the middle of the beautiful little town of Pitlochry, in Perthshire there are a number of positives for this hotel. We're just back from a dinner, bed and breakfast deal we picked up on one of the many internet voucher sites. Location, just off the main street, perfect for exploring the town. The Spa, a nice pool with Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. When we were there there were only 4 others in the spa, at around 5pm. A relaxing hour going between the various rooms and bubbles. The hotel it's self is decorated in typical highland grandness, with dark panels and oil paintings of hills, glens and deer. There are a few signs of wear and tear here and there. The little lift to the 3rd floor is an experience. Our room, was small but very clean and quite modern. The view out of our window was across turreted roofs, and away to the hills in the north. The water for the shower took a bit of time to heat up, but just before you complain, let it run for 5 min before you go for your shower. On to the food, for the price we paid the choice was fine as long as you weren't vegetarian. "One choice" which my wife wasn't keen on. The staff did try to help but I think they could have done more if we had discussed the vegetarian option as soon as we arrived at the hotel, instead of waiting until our booked time. The breakfast was fine and the speed of service was good. Overall, the outward appearance was good, the inside was a wee bit tired in places, but had character in others. The main plus point was the attitude of the staff, some local Scots and a few young eastern Europeans who could not help enough. They made up for the few negatives we had experienced. All in all - good value for what we paid.

Room Tip: in the old part of the hotel, with views of the hills to the north of the town.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at Scotland's Hotel, glad you enjoyed your stay with us and made good use of the hotels leisure facilities its nice when you the pool on the quieter times. Theirs always going to areas of the hotel that are in need of tlc and we do have a rolling program. I must say I'm surprised that the waiting staff never checked with my chef as to what other vegetarian options were available, indeed for the future we should be offering two meat dishes and two vegetarian options and will take this forward. Thanks again for your review.

This hotel is nice albeit that its old and in need of tlc in a few areas. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the food is excellent.

Our room was so hot and the thermostat was not working so that was a bit annoying and it did not make for a good nights sleep. Our room was also very small.

We did not try out the spa facilities so cant comment on those but it looked lovely.

All in all it was a nice stay.

Just back from a two night DBB week- end stay.- two couples. All very pleased with our choice of hotel .Good location just off the main street of this lovely highland village. Rooms are good, clean , bedroom / bathroom good size.Food was excellent, good choice , well cooked & everything hot. Although hotel was very busy service was spot on.We liked the fact there were plenty of lounges for after dinner coffee/ reading purposes & having the pool/ gym/ spa on site was an added bonus.Staff were all very helpful / friendly & although busy went about their duties with a smile.Would certainly recommend this hotel for all round value & will stay again.
This is the third Crerar Group hotel we have stayed in & all have been good.
Keep up the good work.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking hotel car park would be the quieter.

Just returned from a weekend stay at Scotland's Hotel and not impressed. We paid a lot of money for a very tired and dated average hotel. We stayed in the annexe which was ok for us but I can see why it does not suit a lot of people. Luckily it was dry weather as you have to walk down the road to the hotel for breakfast etc. Room ok rather small and dark, bed very very uncomfortable, taps on bathroom sink very loose just waiting for a burst to happen!!
Restaurant area was ok for breakfast but very bland and unappealling looking for evening meal, did not even bother looking at the menu as the room put us off (all lights on and very bland -no atmosphere). Went out both nights for food into the town which was excellent.
Had one drink in hotel but no more very very expensive for bog standard drinks nothing flash.
Breakfast was very average with full cooked breakfast looking decidily lost on a large plate there was so little of it. My husband asked for mushrooms instead of tomatoes but was told the hotel didn't have any !!!!! Yoghurts were out of date by 5 days on picking one up - how dangerous from a health & safety aspect obviously no-one checks them just pushes them out the kitchen. Generally staff in the dining room did not seem to know what they were doing and people including ourselves had to wait an awful long time for food to come out.
All in all there are defintely better hotels in the area for a lot cheaper price and much better service and overall quality.
No doubt the usual bog standard reply will be posted by the Hotel General Manager as with all other reviews.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at Scotland's Hotel, sorry to read your never enjoyed your stay with us I do try and reply and address everyone's review as it's written. The hotel is very old and does require a lot of maintenance we work very hard at keeping it in the best possible condition we can, items do break and we get them fixed as soon as possible like the taps in your room when you told reception about this my handyman went across checked them and tighten them before 9am,we have only just had the outside re-painted and the internal gets fully painted twice yearly for the wear and tear.

Regarding the Bank House you either love it or hate it their seems no in-between the rooms are larger rooms again sorry you didn't enjoy your stay their normally we could have moved you to the main hotel but last weekend the whole town was full with the horse trials.

Our bar prices are no more expensive than any of the hotels in this area if anything we're cheaper.

My aologies about the yoghurts being out of date they should have been checked by the night porter before going on the buffet normally he's very vigilant about the display, my chef will check daily now to make sure this is being done again my apologies, I have to disagree regading my staff as they know what their doing and have been doing it well all season breakfast service is always busy we don't have set times except for groups and sometimes this does slow down service we all work very hard to make sure this is avoided. Thanks for your review I hope you find my comments helpful.
