Stayed one night and sooooo glad we did not stay another. The whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths. From rude bar staff to small cramped room we could not find many redeeming features for this hotel. The facade of the hotel promises much but once inside it started to go downhill, ok-ish check-in but not very welcoming, a great staircase then into corridors similar to a run down "travelodge", to a room that could be descirbed as a compact double, with a cracking view of a wall and a roof. A carpet cleaner and a few 21st century fitments would do wonders. Dinner in McNabs Bistro was, slow, to the point of feeling forgotten, very un-professional and of no joy, the asked for coffe never arrived, water served in a plastic jug of better days, the only highlight wqas a free glass of wine because we complained about the delay. A night cap in the bar was a disaster, the Aussie barman served an expensive local malt whisky in a tumbler, saying" run outa glasses will this do?" did the G n T and then asked for £13.60, when I fell about laughing, and asked if London prices had finally hit Scotland, the Bar Manager, peel off a reciept, stuck it on the bar and said "thats our price, take a look". When I asked if the staff had training in service, i was given the "too busy, short stfaffed routine".
So it was one drink away to bed, up early, into breakfast, the only good staff member on duty was an eastern european guy. Mediocre breakfast, lousy checkout. and thank god for our B & B the next night.
