The food was fresh beautifully cooked was delicious. The staff were excellent and friendly which made for a good night. The inside is a lot better than what the outside looks like.

“One of the best lunches on our trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We were on a bus tour and most of the time that means, you have to pick between a nice sit-down meal or sightseeing because they tend to be short stops.

We had an hour and forty five minutes in Pitlochry and I was so happy because it meant that FINALY we could have a long slow lunch.

We picked The Auld Smiddy Inn and have NO regrets.

Fantastic bottle of red wine, fancy fish and chips, and for desert a plate of Scottish cheeses. Absolutely perfect.

The staff was fantastic, down to Earth and very very polite!!

Great memories!

“Tasty food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012 via mobile

Ate here for lunch on 3 occasions last week. Twice we had the 2 courses for £11.95 meal deal...the game terrine starter was delightful. My partner lovered the haggis neaps and tatties whilst l enjoyed the chicken caesar salad. On the 3rd occasion we had the soup and a sandwich deal at £6.95. The homemade cream of courgette soup was delicious as was the sandwich but l felt the portions could have been much bigger...a small bowl of soup and only one slice of bread used in the sandwich: ie half a sandwich..no salad garnish nor crisps unlike the Old Mill Inn just up the road. The service was excellent...the staff smilling and helpful.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Ate here on Saturday night, we chose it because we wanted something that wasn't commercialised or selling the same menu as others. We were not disappointed. We made a reservation for 7pm but thought we would arrive early for a drink. Our table was free so the staff offered us to sit there. My concern was that they would take our order early, which they didn't.

All at the table had a starter ranging from the meat platter, scallops to pear salad all were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked.

The main course went down jut as well the portions of all the food was perfect.

All init cost us £30 per head for two courses each plus one dessert, a bottle of wine, soft drinks, beers and coffees. All in we thought it was vey reasonable. I would certainly visit again.

“Good but not exceptional”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

Arriving with no booking on a Friday in mid September, the restaurant looked full as we waited briefly at the bar, but were quickly taken to the surprisingly empty and spacious rear restaurant room where we were closely followed by several other couples who had arrived at the same time.

Service was very attentive so any concerns that we may have been forgotten in the corner were unfounded. There was a good menu selection of standard and special dishes. We had olives and bread while choosing and the bread was good homebaked soda bread style.

However, while the Haddock and Chips looked good, the neatly stacked chips lacked bite and the Sausage and Beef pie was filling, although the beef was a touch stringy. The food was therefor okay and the service better. For ambience it was strange listening to Tom Jones' entire album rather than a good mix of tracks.

As others have commented there is a real ale option for drinks.
