“Another nice Scotch distillery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

First distillery I had ever visited. I had not had this Scotch before, but it became a favorite. While we did not take a tour, we did walk around on a short self tour. The tasting room and gift shop was attractive. The Scotch was tasty and smooth. Couldn't leave there without buying a jar of raspberries in Glen Moray Scotch. When in Elgin, visit this site.

“Nice tour, but underperforming whiskies”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

This is a strange distillery to describe. From the outside, it looks like a strange mix of traditional stone building with a modern factory. To the tour itself: we had a guide from Spain (Patricia) for their basic tour (£4/person), who was surprisingly good in delivering her "script", and was easy to listen to. Although she did her best, on the whole, the tour did not really stand out as something exceptional bar the warehouse, where we had the chance to smell spirit from different casks. Back in the visitor centre, however, it is another story: while I do not criticize the hard work of distillery's employees, unfortunately, their whiskies fell short of my expectations. In all cases, they had a weak smell and taste, which does not really add to enjoyment (maybe a result of 3rd/4th refills of their casks), and are at best suited as a "breakfast" whisky. Only the 30yo was enjoyable at some rate. The saving grace is their whisky liqueur, which is suitable as a gift. Additionally, we had two cakes with one coffee and a bottle of water in their coffee shop, and the price was fair. In summary: great tour, the guide did not slack, but the whisky is barely suited for connoisseurs. 8.2 / 10

“Just to recommend a bottle of your own whisky”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We didn't do the tour, but just went into the gift shop where the most attentive woman offered us a taste of all the whiskies, (nice, but I'll be blowed if I can pick up all the tastes on the tasting notes).
However, when we said we had just got married in Gretna, she suggested a bottle from a selected cask in the shop, which, after tasting, we poured, labelled and corked.
Cue cheesy photos of course, but nonetheless we now have a bottle of our very own whisky, ready to be opened at anniversaries.

“Even though i'm not a Whiskey drinker, I found the tour fascinating, I even enjoyed the smells.”

I liked the tour and the tour guide, who was a very good speaker with a touch of humour. The Café was very nice too. The Smoked salmon platter was worth it.

“Great distillery tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Arrived early for the tour so we were able to make the most of the cafe at the visitors centre. Only £1 for a very fresh and lovely scone with jam and butter! The tour was excellent and very informative. Can highly recommend both the tour and the tasting session at the end.
