“Friendly hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2015

Great service from the friendly staff. The room was very warm and clean with free wifi throughout the hotel. The food was decent, although expensive, but pricewise is on a par with the Mansefield Hotel just along the road. It's an easy walk to Elgin town centre.

In town on business and used as a base to work in various parts of northeast Scotland. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Rooms were clean and efficient. Breakfast was pleasant as was the entirety of the hotel restaurant and bar. Close walking distance to the City's center and several restaurants and shops. Wifi is a bit slow but this may be a function of this part of Scotland. TV programming is limited if you are used to the selection of news and entertainment in the US but then again, so is all of the UK.

Room Tip: If you have a group of travelers, ask for the separate house with rooms and sitting area.

I've had the pleasure of staying at the Sunninghill hotel with my husband while he's been working in the area .
The hotel itself is very nice and the owners have managed to integrate a modern , clean ( immaculate ) and comfortable environment along with retaining the character of the 'old' building ... Lots of lovely features like the stained glass window and staircase ... but modern features like LED tvs, king size beds and wifi ..
The staff many of them long term ( which speaks volumes ) are friendly and very efficient .. Giving the feeling that nothing is too much trouble for them .
The food .... Ah the food .... We had one of the best French onion soups that we have ever tasted ... and believe me we have tasted many ... Main courses were delicious , see my photos , service again was very good .. Prices are fair considering the quality of food and the specials board merely poses problems in as much as everything sound delicious making it very difficult to chose !
If you get the chance to eat here please do !
We would happily return to this lovely friendly and well run hotel
both for business and pleasure and are happy to recommend the Sunninghill Hotel to you all.
It's ideally located too , 5 mins walk to train station with links to Inverness and Aberdeen and 5 min walk in the other direction into a nice little town .
Thank you Sunninghill staff for a very pleasant stay !

Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Our only problem for our one night stay was our wifi connection. We could not get an internet connection in our room even after the staff tried to help. Worked fine in the restaurant.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Thank you for your kind review and we are very glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

We know there is poor service in some areas with our WIFI and this Tuesday we are getting new access points installed which hopefully will solve the problem.

Enjoy the rest of your trip to Scotland.

Lovely hotel, rooms well decorated and cosy. The restaurant menu was extensive, with lots of variety and reasonable prices. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the bar staff certainly know their whisky!

We had both been at this hotel for meals and family events in the past and on every occasion the food had been spot on so it was an easy decision for us to have our wedding reception (42 guests approx) here. Everything was perfect. Fantastic and plentiful food, and good choice of menu, hot plates (mother of the bride was impressed). Service prompt and organised, dining room with conservatory ideal for event. Even a red carpet for the new Mr &Mrs! Stayed there overnight. Comfortable room/bed and in the morning a delicious cooked breakfast. All staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Overall the best choice for our wedding.

I was recently working at Lossiemouth and was booked into this Hotel by my company, I have found many of the Hotels seem to suffer a lack of water pressure with the result that you have to work hard to get a decent shower so I was pleasantly surprised when I booked in to the Sunninghill to find a half decent working shower. I had to extend my stay and was asked if I could move to another room, the second room was even better than the first in that it had a bath and a shower.

Breakfast was a good start to the day and I found all the staff helpfull and friendly, however there is one downside to the Hotel - it's a very popular place to eat with the locals and as we were returning from work after six o'clock it was sometimes difficult to find a parking space, the upside of this is that when you eat in the restaurant you get to find out what the locals already know - the food here is excellent, some items seem a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and I was very satisfied with every meal I had in the Hotel.

If you like your Ale then you will be happy to hear that they feature in the 'Good Pub Guide' and the bar staff are happy to advise on the beers on offer.

I would certainly consider staying here if I were in the area on Holiday and would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family.
