The hotels rooms are mix of old and new.
In the new part of the Hotel they are 4* quality. In the old part of the hotel they are not.
We stayed in the old part, in the Chaplin suite and although in need of some "Tender, loving care" The sheer size and comfort made up for it's aging decor. (Just cleaning the windows would have helped). The suite had a sitting room about 18' x 15', a bedroom (slightly smaller) with four poster bed and a huge Bathroom.
In the restaurant the meals were excellent and varied(and pretty reasonably priced).
The staff were very friendly, efficient and attentive.
During our stay there were some New Zealanders working there who were just wonderful.

I stayed here for one night and was very pleased with this hotel. After a long working day, the welcome was warm and friendly, I was quickly checked in and soon in my room. The bed was comfy, shower hot and everywhere was spotless, but did not have that sterile feel. There were lovely fluffy towels, complimentary toiletries, a hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities with a choice of drinks and biscuits. The sign - please contact reception if you would like fresh milk - was a nice touch. I had a quick stroll in the grounds (the hotel is in a beatiful location) and a good, quiet night's sleep.
I hadn't booked breakfast but this wasn't a problem. There was a wide selection for the continental option - good range of cereals, pastries, jams, fruit, cold meat and cheese as well as the usual juices, tea and coffee. The cooked breakfast looked nice and fresh too. The hotel was spotless throughout and had the feel of un upgraded, airy, traditional style place, rather than a sterile modernised building.
Check-out was fuss-free, the staff very pleasant and I left feeling refreshed. In a strange way, I hope work runs late again , so that I can come back. I might even come back on holiday here. Rates online vary a lot, so shop around and hopefully you'll get a great value for money stay here.

I stayed at the Newton Hotel during a 15 trip with CIE Tours. This was a very nice hotel within walking distance of the water and a field of cows. It looked newly updated. The rooms were clean and the service was great. I wasn't thrilled with their breakfast, but dinner was good. Overall, it was a very nice hotel with character. I would stay there again!

a trip adviser user.
date June 2007

we have just returned from a stay at this hotel, Sadly we stayed in the old part of the hotel which is really tired and in need of some TLC. Our bedroom was very dark and drab and the bed was old and creaky.as were the floorboards.
The hallway carpet into the restaurant is torn/ worn and could be dangerous to older patrons.Staff seem a bit uninterested.
The hotel is in a lovely setting and very near the town and beach and the newer part seems to be okay. So if you decide to go please ask for the new rooms.
probably wont be back.

Spend three nights at this hotel. This was probably not the best season and since I was on a business mission there I did not have time to enjoy the environment. Hotel is clean. Staff is friendly. Rooms are otherwise average. What once was supposed to be some kind of a castle is not very visible anymore. Nothing remarkable to consider coming back.
