“Wonderful”

Boath House Hotel and Spa

After an incredible series of stops within Scotland by our five star tour service 'Scotland Calling', they brought us to Boath House, just south of Inverness. What greeted us as we were driven in was a gracious and lovely 200 year old Georgian style estate on twenty acres. The taste and style of the House were impeccable and was a remarkable blend of old and new. Our hosts Don and Wendy Matheson and their staff were wonderful and made us feel quite welcome. The dining and service was exquisite, and the food unforgettable. The grounds themselves are beautiful. It is no wonder they are rated among the top ten in all Scotland. Highly recommended....

This hotel was advertised as a 5 star boutique hotel - in their dreams!! We stayed for two nights. At £350 per night (including dinner), I would have expected this hotel to be luxurious and something very special. Far from it!! It appears to have been decorated "on the cheap" and the room we were in seemed to have been furnished with odd bits of furniture which I presume were bought at the local auction rooms. The quality of the bedlinen was poor albeit clean. The large vase of artificial flowers placed on the chest of drawers had to be seen to be believed. The staff however were attentive and friendly. The food was fine even although portions were microscopic and there appeared to be some kind of obsession with the use a nondescript foam topping. I can't understand how this hotel managed to get itself into the "Connoiseurs Scotland" guide alongside Gleneagles, Stobo and Sheraton Grand. Boath House is not in the same league.

“A great end to our honeymoon!”

We only spent one night at Boath House, which is a lovely country house hotel but it was fabulous. Relaxed and unpretentious - all the staff and owners were very friendly and extremely efficient. The house is full of local arts and crafts which makes is much more personable and special. The food is also a real treat, especially breakfast. Only a short drive from Inverness airport - a great weekend destination.

Quite simply, we are foodies. We live in NY and regularly eat at some of the world's best restaurants. In touring the UK, we specifically sought out establishments known for their food. The Boath House serverd us 5 of the best meals of the trip, and some of the best meals we've had in a long time!!! They simply could not do anything wrong. The wine choices were flawless, the meals were beyond explanation. Just go and taste for yourself! And the proprietors offered the warmest welcome of our trip - personal, helpful, wonderful. Michelin, get your stars ready. You're going to need three of them!

We've just enjoyed a fabulous stay at this lovely hotel. Comfortable bedrooms with huge bathrooms and lots of personal touches, exquisite art works throughout the elegant public rooms, welcoming and energetic owners and staff, great wines, and outstanding cuisine. A memorable experience.
