When booking, it must be said that Jolene was extremely helpful and informative. Her professionalism, along with the website, gave us high hopes for our two day stay.

Unfortunately we were sorely let down by the quality of the accommodation, food and the helpfulness of the staff. Upon checking in, we were not told that there was no power, nor directed to our rooms which were in a confusing relationship to the rest of the hotel. The décor of the rooms and hotel was certainly sub-standard and not very clean. Three of my colleagues had problems with the lights in their bathrooms—some not working, others flickering (a fire hazard). One colleague was put in a room that was actively used for smoking, though he is a non-smoker-certainly against the spirit of the recent smoking ban.

On the first day, staff had to be reminded to bring our coffee, which was consistently terrible throughout the two days. The food generally was appalling and certainly not as advertised on the website as having, “flare and imagination, using the finest local produce whenever possible.”

The Mallaig Haddock was the most local thing on our set menu, which though ordered by two, was barely palatable. The lunch of soup and sandwiches was barely enough and only had one veggie option, even though I specifically indicated we required vegetarian food.

The overall experience was certainly one that left us feeling that Swallow Hotels are cheap and dirty and over-priced for the accommodation offered and we certainly will not be booking with you in the future.

My wife and I have just returned from a great week staying in Kyle of Lochalsh. The Kyle Hotel was the perfect base for visiting the Isle of Skye, Lochalsh and Wester Ross. The hotel was extremely clean, comfortable, warm and welcoming at the end of a bracing day's touring/walking. The restaurant is superb and clearly the first choice of Kyle locals. The seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked and the herb crusted rack of lamb was the finest I have ever tasted. My wife's favourites were the escalopes of venison and the warm chocolate and almond sponge dessert. The adjoining, refurbished, Norwest Cafe Bar provides local colour and simpler fare prepared to the same high standard. Our overall impression was of management and staff dedicated to the service of their clients, be they holidaymakers, business travellers or wayfarers sheltering from the storm!

"Great hotel" it looks as if the whole place has been recently refurbished, and very tasteful it is too. Upgrade to a deluxe room if you can, we did and it was well worth the extra money. The food is top class- the restaurant has a good reputation locally and was very busy on the Saturday night, so make sure you book a table-one by the window is best looking down to the Loch. We are already planning a return trip early next year.
