From the website this looks like a very comfortable, high quality hotel. Unfortunately this isn't the case. The staff seem very disorganised, with many of them speaking English as a second language. In fact I think we only heard 2 Scottish accents during our whole stay. The reception area was a shambles with tools and decorating equipment left lying around and there was one poor receptionist trying to do everything whilst other members of staff just stood around. At first glance the room seemed very nice - quite modern, LCD TV, recessed lighting and window seat. The bathroom was modern, with whirlpool bath and shower, but was very small and creaked and vibrated whenever anyone went past in the corridor. In fact it sounded like there were hords of people coming in and out of our room which is very disconcerting when you are trying to relax in the bath!
Overall whilst the room looked very nice it was very noisey. The bedroom door rattled constantly and had to be wedged and there was lots of noise from traffic outside - coaches and motor bikes, lots of vibrations and banging from the corridor, from the entrance below our room and from the laundry room across the corridor. The corridors are very narrow and on the main corridor leading out to the car park, guests had to find passing places to squeaze passed each other. We had an evening meal in the hotel on the first night which was very poor and the breakfast the next morning was very disappointing. The breakfast buffet was lacking in choice and of varying quality and the cooked breakfast looked poorly cooked and after the meal the night before I wouldn't even try it. My husband did but switched to buffet for the remaining days of our stay because at least there they hadn't had to cook anything.
For the price we paid it was very disappointing and gave the impression of a badly run B&B rather than a quality hotel. We'd already stayed at a significantly better hotel near Aviemore for the earlier part of the week and as The Kyle had cost more and we knew we'd paid for a superior room with queen size bed, jacuzzi, video (which there wasn't, nor SKY TY as advertised in the hotel brochure supplied with the room), we were really looking forward to it. Our holiday was only rescued by the fact that Skye is such a beautiful place and we found a number of cafes and coffee shops and even the local chippy that manged to serve infinately better food than our hotel. The best things about this hotel are its proximity to Skye and the fact that the bed was very comfty. Everything else was a huge let down. Would definately not stay here again but would definately go back to Skye.
