"Great hotel" it looks as if the whole place has been recently refurbished, and very tasteful it is too. Upgrade to a deluxe room if you can, we did and it was well worth the extra money. The food is top class- the restaurant has a good reputation locally and was very busy on the Saturday night, so make sure you book a table-one by the window is best looking down to the Loch. We are already planning a return trip early next year.

“had a wonderful meal at the Kyle Hotel”

September 18/05 we dined at the Kyle Hotel, at the recommendation of the owner of our local bed and breakfast. We did not have reservations and 'just arrived'. It was probably one of the 2 best meals in our 2 weeks in Scotland....Not only did we enjoy the food but the service and friendliness of the staff. Being in travel I like to keep notes on places to recommend for my clients. The Kyle dining experience is certainly one I will share. Lynn Ottawa Canada

“Fantastic getaway in the highlands”

A friend and I stayed at the Kyle Hotel for 3 nights whilst on a driving tour around the Scottish Highlands. We had originally planned a one night stop over but were so impressed by the standard of the hotel that we extended our stay for some rest and relaxation.
The highlight of this lovely hotel is without doubt the excellent restaurant, where we enjoyed wonderful 3 course meals. The food was the best we ate in out time travelling round the Highlands, the menu offers a good range to suit all tastes including really delicious seafood options.
The hotel is very comfortable and the staff we extremely friendly and helpful making our stay there very welcoming. The hotel is a great base for visiting nearby Skye and various other beautiful spots, just ask the staff for advice!

“Needs much improvement”

Kyle Hotel

The Kyle Hotel in my opinion certainly needs much improvement. The hotel tarriff is over-priced for such a place, especially compared to other hotels I have stayed in in Scotland at a much more competative rate and indeed better value.

Parts of the Kyle Hotel would appear to have seen better days. The room I was given was small and on the groud floor - the walls are thin so you can hear the corridor traffic loud and clear and the foot steps of the person in the room above.

The advertised 'power shower' worked ok but the loo did not flush properly - the room furniture was in poor condition with a nasty looking stain on a chair.

The house keeping could be better organised too, sometimes the rooms had not be cleaned until the late afternoon. The food was adequate - although the evening meal menu does have a poor over-priced choice - and the bar snack menu is not much better either.

During my stay the staff seem to be mostly from the eastern bloc countries they were pleasent but inexperienced. The dining room seems to alternate between a main dining room, a function room and a conservatory. If you use the function room you can hear your order being yelled across the kitchen.

There is a reasonable size car park at the back of the hotel - with the railway line going past. On the side of the hotel is the "Norwest bar" a sports bar with modern style furniture and bar fittings. This place seemed to attract the local lads and lassies so it could be noisy - not to mention the offensive language. All in all the hotel management in my opinion should review the tariff for the hotel! a lot of work needs to be done and improvements acted upon before I would consider staying there again. Scottish Tourist Board - take note!!

“Very disappointing”

From the website this looks like a very comfortable, high quality hotel. Unfortunately this isn't the case. The staff seem very disorganised, with many of them speaking English as a second language. In fact I think we only heard 2 Scottish accents during our whole stay. The reception area was a shambles with tools and decorating equipment left lying around and there was one poor receptionist trying to do everything whilst other members of staff just stood around. At first glance the room seemed very nice - quite modern, LCD TV, recessed lighting and window seat. The bathroom was modern, with whirlpool bath and shower, but was very small and creaked and vibrated whenever anyone went past in the corridor. In fact it sounded like there were hords of people coming in and out of our room which is very disconcerting when you are trying to relax in the bath!
Overall whilst the room looked very nice it was very noisey. The bedroom door rattled constantly and had to be wedged and there was lots of noise from traffic outside - coaches and motor bikes, lots of vibrations and banging from the corridor, from the entrance below our room and from the laundry room across the corridor. The corridors are very narrow and on the main corridor leading out to the car park, guests had to find passing places to squeaze passed each other. We had an evening meal in the hotel on the first night which was very poor and the breakfast the next morning was very disappointing. The breakfast buffet was lacking in choice and of varying quality and the cooked breakfast looked poorly cooked and after the meal the night before I wouldn't even try it. My husband did but switched to buffet for the remaining days of our stay because at least there they hadn't had to cook anything.
For the price we paid it was very disappointing and gave the impression of a badly run B&B rather than a quality hotel. We'd already stayed at a significantly better hotel near Aviemore for the earlier part of the week and as The Kyle had cost more and we knew we'd paid for a superior room with queen size bed, jacuzzi, video (which there wasn't, nor SKY TY as advertised in the hotel brochure supplied with the room), we were really looking forward to it. Our holiday was only rescued by the fact that Skye is such a beautiful place and we found a number of cafes and coffee shops and even the local chippy that manged to serve infinately better food than our hotel. The best things about this hotel are its proximity to Skye and the fact that the bed was very comfty. Everything else was a huge let down. Would definately not stay here again but would definately go back to Skye.
