“HAPPY CHRISTMAS (nearly!)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

My partner and I have just returned from Christmas at the Highland Hotel, Fort William, via Lochs & Glens Holidays, having been recommended by several friends of the quality of the breaks.
The Hotel and staff were excellent, from Paula and Stefan down to the serving staff - always smiling and helpful.
The room was lovely and cosy, the hotel warm and inviting with log fires, and all beautifully decorated for Christmas.
The food and service very efficient, since they had three coach loads of visitors over the Christmas break.
The big let down was the coach journey! Uncomfortable did not come into it. I have travelled to Italy via coach which was very comfortable. I have never felt so unhappy on this one - hard seats, overly tight seat belts and lack of leg room made it a journey from hell, which took thirteen and a half hours from our starting point at Thurrock Services. My partner really suffered and we were thinking of travelling home via train as he could not face the journey home. luckily it was not quite so bad going home, but Lochs and Glens only employ one driver per coach, and consequently a lot of the stopovers were quite long, in order that he should have his allotted rest.
This is understandable, but I really feel that Lochs & Glens should employ two drivers for a journey this long - 700 miles I was told. This would enable shorter stops and make life much easier. Plus they should use much better quality coaches, which I know are available since I have had many coach breaks over the last ten years.
Various other reviewers have commented on the quality of their coaches, so I am not alone in my complaint.
However the hotel and entertainment could not be faulted, so don't be put off but be aware if you are travelling from the South of England

Room Tip: Ask for a loch view room at the front. Really worth it

Long journey from Yorkshire to The Highlands of Scotland but it was well worth the trip. The Highland Hotel was just beautiful, we couldn't find a fault. The food was excellent and the trips out with Lochs and Glens were superb. Even the weather was good. Big thank you to ALL the wonderful staff there. Well done. xx

Just returned from a Lochs & Glens 4 day break.
Picked up from Ayr by a contract coach. We had book a lochs & Glen Holiday and expected a nice coach from the same company. Disappointed ... although Karin our driver was excellent both in driving and entertainment. Jokes, Music & singalongs all made the journey to Fort William more pleasant.
The Hotel stood overlooking the loch. Impressed with the look and ambience of the hotel. We received a warm welcome by Stephan and our luggage was off loaded and delivered to our room.
The room was of a reasonable size and in good repair. Clean sheets and comfy bed although small for two people of 12 & 18 stone. Could have done with a kingsize or twin beds. Bathroom was large and well fitted. My only gripe was the bathe towels were very small, ok if you are 6 stone dripping wet.
Food was hot, varied and plentiful. Service was very quick and pleasant.
There was a large downstairs lounge spreading either side of the front door with log fires either end. Lovely and warm until smokers kept coming in & out all night letting in a gush of cold air. It was -6 on one evening and just as you were getting warm the door opened again.
Also we were INSTRUCTED not to put and logs on the fire after 9pm, ridiculous as we only finished dinner at 8:30 one night and was looking forward to a nice cosey sit by the fire.
Entertainment was the usual singer/ keyboard night some good some ok.

Al in all a lovely holiday in a great location. Really nice hotel spoilt by petty rules (fire) and blasts of cold Scottish air every few minutes. Staff were generally very good and friendly.

Room Tip: ask for a loch view room.

We had a 6 day break at The Highland Hotel from 19th November this year with Lochs and Glens Holiday. The hotel was first class, food really excellent (nice varied choice) and more than adequate portions and staff very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and our room lovely. We would really recommend it - to help matters the hotel was decorated for Christmas and looked really lovely. Fabulous. Thanks

Room Tip: Decide if you want a Loch view and a bath or walk-in shower. Our requests were met, so were delight...

We had a four day break with Lochs and Glens for £198 each, all in all we had a great time, excellent service from all the staff, probably the best service I have ever experienced. Breakfast menus as to be expected, would have preferred to have payed a little extra for an improved main meal in the evening, but, adequate . Hotel was very clean and comfortable. Hats off to the Manager for motivating her team so well.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are available here !

We have just returned from a most enjoyable trip with Lochs and Glens Holidays, 5 great days that could not be faulted with the staff at the Hotel being first class, the rooms were spacious very clean and comfortable, the whole hotel itself was spotless all the staff especially Paula and Stefan, were happy friendly and could not do too much to make our stay perfect and the food was excellent too,The only thing that let them down was the contracted coach firm Golden Pioneer. I hope they can sort that one out very shortly and the whole experience would have been absolutely perfect

Room Tip: 304 excellent loch views
