“A dreadful hotel with staff on the verge of suicide”

Going off the other reviews we were particularly unlucky with our stay here, however... The welcome we got on arrival was anything but warm, we instantly felt as though we were 'in the way' and were made to feel very uncomfortable.
After leaving our luggage in our 1960s style room (the bathroom style was a touch more ‘retro’), we headed straight out and stayed away for as long as possible. When the cold weather was just too much to bear any more, we were forced back and after having a lengthy shower (the leisurely water flow necessitated this), we went down to the bar where the staff seemed about as pleased to be there as you might expect a bunch of hostages to be. To be fair, the beer wasn’t all that bad but then again, speaking as a former licensee, it’s rather difficult to serve bad Guinness, I would have had difficulty getting £2.90 for a pint of it though.

A thoroughly bad experience in all respects, I will not be returning to this place.

Just back from a weekend in Fort William, we picked the hotel on the basis of the reviews and they were spot on. I was one of a group of five men over on a walking weekend. It was a good choice for what we wanted. Clean, inexpensive, reasonably central, close to the start of the Nevis trail, bar, pool table, tasty pub grub, free parking, friendly staff, no tour groups. A lot of the other guests were also hikers. This is a basic hotel about ten minutes walk from the end of the main street. The furniture is old and the decor is fairly dated but the beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean. The plumbing could do with an overhaul (groaning pipes early in the morning a bit of a pain) and the ensuites in both rooms were small. Overall, provided they don't increase their prices, this is what I would expect for the money. By the way, the best pub in town was the Grog and Gruel.

This is a pretty good hotel, reasonably priced though looking a little threadbare. However this is not your cityslicker hotel and is used by hillwalkers and skiers so I guess it has an excuse.
Location was very good, a few minutes stroll into town, the room clean and spacious and the staff very friendly. I intend to go back in the winter if and when the snows comes to ski and I will certainly stay at this hotel. One last comment and that is if you go to Fort William a must is the jacobite steam train, a fantastic experience and amazing views, if you are a steam buff then these are an added bonus.

“Good Value and Friendly”

Stayed here whilst working in the area for a few days and glad I chose the Nevis Bank after an internet trawl. Highly recommended from the quality of the excellent food to the friendliness and professionalism
of the staff. The en-suite could have done with a makeover but the room was good otherwise and a small point in the great scheme of things!
