“We could not wait to leave Corriegour”

Corriegour Lodge Hotel

Having arrived with high expectations we were very sorry to find that this hotel was one of the least loved we have ever stayed in. Although the view from the dining room was excellent and evening meal good (at £47.50 it ought to be but if you wanted anything other than belly pork or pigeon on our first night there was a supplement of at least £6.00) and on two occasions we found cats' hairs in the food, the room we stayed in was 2 star at best - polyester sheets, greying thin towels, no radio or telephone in the room, TV not very clear, uncomfortable bed, very noisy (facing over the main fort william inverness road), shower not working properly. There were none of the usual items associated with 4 star hotels - fresh flowers in the lounge or on the tables, starched linen cloths, a newspaper delivered to the hotel (let alone being able to order one as at the three other establishments we stayed at in Scotland in the subsequent few days) - the main magazine reading available in the lounge was Men's Health. At £105 per night per person for DBB this was clearly very poor value for money, especially compared to the other hotels we stayed in during our 10 days in Scotland. The common areas were dingy and the whole place loooked as though it could do with some care and attention. the staff were kind and attentive but we were very glad to leave after our booked two days. we asked to leave after one but we reminded of the strict cancellation rules. We were not the only dissatisfied guests at the time.

We were originally meant to stay in a different hotel in Fort William, but on checking in we immediately started to look for an alternative. Found the Corriegour Lodge in a brochure, called them up and they had availability for 3 nights. This hotel and staff made our stay in Scotland! The staff are very attentive to every detail - we are vegetarians and were very accommodating, asking what we would want and what we would eat. We were made to feel very much at home. Our room was lovely (room 12) and the views from the dining room are splendid. The food is to die for!!! Would highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to go back.

“Rescued our Silver Wedding in Comfort, Style and Warmth”

In Scotland to celebrate our silver wedding - I had previously dismissed Corriegour as it was not in an area we intended visiting. Booking into an hotel on the Road to the Isles (yes I will be writing a review!), for 2 nights to take in our actual anniversary, we left early. Not finding anything along the Road to the Isles (or indeed From the Isles by now), I called Corriegour on the off chance. I spoke to a very warm, inviting voice at the end of the phone, who said yes, they had a room; yes, with a view over the loch, no, not over looking the dustbins, no we would not be disturbed by noisy staff leaving at night, no the barrels of beer would not be anywhere near our room and yes, we could have as much tap water as we could drink - from their own spring! We then concentrated on spending time enjoying our day, rather than thinking about somewhere to stay. Late afternoon we pulled up in the drive, passing a lawn, stream and colourful flower tubs in the process of being filled. We parked up and walked into reception. A welcome smile from the lady who had rushed around from the garden. She knew who we were, showed us around before taking us upstairs to our room (10). Spacious, clean and bright - with a wonderful view. We had a restorative cup of tea, before going for a walk along the loch - you can't fo far and the road is fast and furious - but it was a good view when we got there. We then spent time sitting in the garden reading - it was gloriously peaceful - despite the road - which to be honest we didn't notice. Trust me - this place just envelopes you in warmth. We started off the evening with a bottle of champagne and went on to have a wonderful meal - which was frankly sublime. Ian - please do not ever ever ever go to a pretentious London restaurant - stay hidden there at Corriegour so we can come back! We had coffee in the lounge and my husband had the largest brandy.
Downside? I would say the shower in our room - which was very small. However, with a wonderful food, a large comfy bed and a view - who wants to linger in a shower - not me! The staff were all so friendly and spent time talking and chatting with you - it was just perfect. I even left a tip - almost unheard of - for me. Thank you to all at Corriegour you really helped to set us up for the next 25 years!

We have stayed at the Corriegour on 3 occasions now, we return because of the excellent dinner served in a wonderful restaurant overlooking loch Lochy. You can expect friendly service and good Scottish locally sourced food, prepared with expertise by the son of the proprietor.
Our only criticism is that the breakfasts do not live up to the expectation created by the experience of the 'night before'. The older rooms are being 'done up' but if you can, stay in one of the newer bedrooms. the lochside location is ideal, views are lovely, but you will need a car.

Spent three nights at this lovely hotel. Great food, great staff (especially William), great bed. Beautiful views from the dinning room of loch and mountains. Came away relaxed and well fed.
