“Wonderful old shooting lodge”

Corriegour Lodge Hotel

Jun 9, 2008

As a Scot living abroad I found this hotel to be wonderfully atmospheric and reminiscent of an old Scottish shooting lodge. The living room had wonderful overstuffed sofas (plumped up by the staff at frequent intervals) and the sun room dining area, although unusually hot due to the sun streaming in the windows, had views second to none. Mountains reaching to the loch, dining as the sun went down was an experience. I loved the starched white linen tablecloths, silver candelabra and the beautiful pieces of furniture. Food could not be faulted, nor the service. Our room was on the small side, but very comfortable and tastefully decorated. No phones and TV was limited, but you don't go to the Highlands for either (using cell phones is a challenge!). I would go back to Corriegour Lodge Hotel in a heartbeat.

“Don't Go There!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

I will start with what is good about the hotel, it has lovely food and one member of good staff. She was a cleaner and very pleasant.
Now here comes the list of bad things. When we were eating our breakfast in the morning , our peace was ruined by what seemed to be the boss flapping at one of her staff. The staff had infact done a wonderful job so I can't see what the problem was, and saying that even if there was an issue should be approached in a decent manner.
Second was the rooms, poor quality of bedding and the rooms were so small you couldn't even swing a cat in it. They were clean, I will give them that but they really, and I mean really were not worth what I paid for them.
Even the drinks was terrible, tiny measures of a great amount of money.
Now my last and final note is about the staff. Again I will say again the cleaners were more than friendly. But the atmosphere in the dining room and reception seemed totally fake. It actually tired me. Some were snobby some were false and some were just plain old annoying.

“Lacks attention to detail”

My wife and I stayed here first in 2005, and really enjoyed ourselves. The food was excellent, and the staff were very helpful if a little brusque.

We decided to go back for part of our honeymoon in 2006, and they really let themselves down. We arrived in the morning on the sleeper train, as I'm sure many people must do, but they had forgotten that we'd booked for breakfast (which cost nearly £20 each, and the coffee was instant!). In fact, they'd forgotten altogether that I'd told them we were celebrating our honeymoon, and made no attempt to do anything special for us at all.

The surcharges on the menu were excessive. The waitresses weren't Scottish, and didn't really speak English, which was awkward.

Still, it's a good location and good food.

“Excellent Scottish Dining Experience”

The hotel is situated on the banks of Loch Lochy with spectacular views of the loch and surrounding mountains. We were lucky that it was sunny when we arrived so could sit outside and enjoy the view with a very welcome drink following a drive up through Glen Coe (magnificent!) from Edinburgh.

Our room was quite small and, despite being newly decorated, wasn't particularly luxurious and had a faint damp smell. The bathroom, however, was lovely with a walk-in shower and Molton Brown toiletries.

What really makes this hotel though is the excellent service and fabulous dining. Everyone was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They were attentive without being overbearing and really made our stay special.

The food was excellent. Fresh Scottish fare including the largest scallops I've ever seen! All cooked to perfection. There are 5 courses though - so don't eat too much at lunch!

Breakfast was also good - with a choice of the usual breakfast goods plus very tasty Loch Fyne kippers or poached haddock.

For a Scottish dining experience, with great service and lovely views this hotel is hard to beat.
