“Good for dog-owners”

The Lodge on the Loch Hotel

Mar 25, 2008

Having just returned from The Lodge on The Loch I was amazed to read some of the very negative reviews above. Granted, I would not call this a 'boutique' hotel in the usual sense but I do think that the hotel has a great deal to recommend it. We found our lake-view room (Rennie Mactinosh) clean, recently decorated and well-maintained with an excellent shower and spa bath. The food also was pretty good both in terms of choice and quality and I am very, very fussy!
The wine list was also pretty good and reasonably priced.

We were also pleased that the hotel was friendly to our dog who is very well-travelled! We sometimes find that hotels advertise dog-friendly and then make one feel uncomfortable.

To those reviewers who thought the hotel expensive, I am puzzled. I thought £170 per night for D,B&B was pretty good value though I am used to southern prices.

If I have a criticism it was with the table service by a young lady with no social graces and who failed to smile, communicate or respond to our polite please and thank yous. However, the front of house staff were charming and served us quickly and pleasantly.

“Lodge on the Loch, Lady MacPherson Suite”

The Lodge on the Loch Hotel

I wanted to write a quick review of the hotel as I searched all of the reviews before going myself! I took my partner to Lodge on the Loch for his 30th birthday and had a lovely time. The location is very quiet, but the scenery is excellent. The hotel was very nice, the Hotel Manager very friendly and the food was good also.

We stayed in the Lady MacPherson suite, which was bigger than I though, judging from photo's on the internet. There is the bedroom, bathroom and also a seperate room with 2 seats, window with a lovely view and TV, CV player.

I think that the hotel is quite expensive, however had such a nice time that I do not begrudge paying the price for it.

Would recommend for couples definitely. Scenery on way up is great.

“Incredible service, brilliant hotel!”

The Lodge on the Loch Hotel

I had the pleasure of staying at the Lodge on the Loch for an entire week and cannot recommend this hotel enough.
Myself and 7 other work colleagues were taking part in a photoshoot in the stunning area of Glencoe, Scotland and the Lodge of the Loch provided the ideal base, location and facilities for all of our needs. Home from home!

Anne, the General Manager and her team literally "bent over backwards" to assist us in all our requirements.

We had 8 single rooms that were individually decorated and incredible attractive. Very comfortable indeed. The shower pressure was amazing and the beds were heavenly comfy.

I always feel it is the "small things" that count to make any hotel stay a memorable one and believe me there were many, many small things that made our stay unforgettable. From a delightful selection of fruit in the room, bottled water (still and sparkling) to the "nothing is a problem" attitude that came from the staff.

The food was tremendous. Fresh local ingredients, a well balanced menu, cooked to absolute perfection! Anne and her amazing chief even opened the kitchen early (6am!!) to ensure we headed of every morning with a hot breakfast in our tummies. No ordinary breakfast either, a full and entire range of everything you could ever want!

I have stayed in many a 5 star hotel with all the latest state of the art features, clinical surroundings and robotic staff - give me the beautiful and genuine Lodge on the Loch anyday!

Remember this is not a 5 star hotel, charging 5 star prices and does not claim to be! This is a true gem hidden in the mountains of Glencoe and that can only enhance your trip to this magical part of Scotland!

Thanks to Anne and her staff for making my job and trip an absolute joy!

My husband and I re-visited this hotel recently after staying here for our honeymoon in 2006.
We were yet again impressed with the quality and service.

Our room 'The Monarch of the Glen' has a fantastic panoramic view over the loch, the bathroom contains a double free standing bath, more than big enough for two.
The evening meal was once again superb, with a good choice of dishes from the set menu.
The only complaint would be that the breakfast in the room arrived on cold plates and therefore the food was cold.
We will certainly go back again, maybe next year.

Great views, great rooms, great food and great staff.....

Ok, it's a tad on the pricey side, but you'll feel well looked after and well fed afterwards!
