Having just returned from The Lodge on The Loch I was amazed to read some of the very negative reviews above. Granted, I would not call this a 'boutique' hotel in the usual sense but I do think that the hotel has a great deal to recommend it. We found our lake-view room (Rennie Mactinosh) clean, recently decorated and well-maintained with an excellent shower and spa bath. The food also was pretty good both in terms of choice and quality and I am very, very fussy!
The wine list was also pretty good and reasonably priced.
We were also pleased that the hotel was friendly to our dog who is very well-travelled! We sometimes find that hotels advertise dog-friendly and then make one feel uncomfortable.
To those reviewers who thought the hotel expensive, I am puzzled. I thought £170 per night for D,B&B was pretty good value though I am used to southern prices.
If I have a criticism it was with the table service by a young lady with no social graces and who failed to smile, communicate or respond to our polite please and thank yous. However, the front of house staff were charming and served us quickly and pleasantly.
