“Excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

This is an excellent B&B. I always make a point of staying here when I am in the West Highlands, even if it means a slight detour. So far I have been three times in four years, the latter two with my girlfriend (who also really likes it).

It is excellent for a number of reasons. Firstly, the views from the B&B across Loch Linnhe to the crags beyond are superb. All the rooms on the south side of the house have these views, including (crucially) the breakfast room, so all the guests can see them at least once each day.

Secondly, the proprietor, Flora, gives you a very warm and friendly welcome. In addition, she provides nice little extra touches, such as a couple of sweets on the bedside cabinet each day. She is also very helpful during the stay (for example, lending us her ferry timetable).

Thirdly, the breakfasts are very good indeed, including an excellent optional extra course of homemade fruit salad.

Fourthly, the B&B represents really good value for money. Too many B&Bs these days charge too much, with the result that I avoid them (especially as I only work part-time, meaning I have to be careful with money - although I would probbaly still feel the same if I still worked full-time!). Flora's prices are very reasonable indeed.

Fifthly, the B&B is really well located. Fort William town centre is only a mile-and-a-half away. Local historical attractions such as the excellent West Highland Museum and the impressive (and free!) Old Inverlochy Castle are also very close. The B&B is also within striking distance of other top attractions, such as the very good Glenfinnan Monument and Visitor Centre (which, as a Jacobite, I particularly enjoyed visiting on a previous stay here!), and the spectacular Isle of Mull.

The only thing that might put some people off is that the rooms are not ensuite. However, as the B&B is a bungalow all on one floor, the toilets are only a few yards away from the rooms. Also, the rooms have baisins (or at least the room we always have does!), so you can wash in your own room.

All in all, this is an excellent place to stay, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

Alan Hobson

Room Tip: The rooms on the south side are the ones which have ths stunning views.
